I know that the Fox MSB1 has 3 side draws (I winder tray, I shallow and 1 deep tackle tray) and a base unit.

Does it have any additional trays fitted as standard and can the space under the seat be converted to take a couple of winder trays?

No it does not have any other trays.
All the units bar the winder tray under the seat can be removed/moved.
I have added Two winder trays to mine & may do away with tthe base unit altogether & add more trays.(much lighter than draw units).

Nick T; sorry to hijack the thread, but i wondered if Decaff knows whether you can fit the Fox winder trays (14 winders per tray) into the MSB trays, as they don’t fit the Drawers?

Yes they do,but they rattle around like good un’s.Two will leave you with about 40mm at one end.A little more thought required me thinks!

I sold my shallow winder unit and bought several trays. I usually take 4 on the box and have the rest in a stack unit for festivals and to store in the garage. I use rive winders though they don’t fit flush, will look at some L shaped plastic to hold them in place. Great box imo, much comer seat than my Old d36.

Sorry to hijack Nick, but I’m looking at a new box and I’ve narrowed it down to the MSB system 1 or the Preston Space Station Compact.

What is everyones thoughts on their MSB box? I’ve heard several reports of the top winder tray being hard to open but is there anything else?

                    Rhino,
I use Rive winders in mine & have lined the trays with draught excluder, works a treat.
Not like a Rive tray that you can turn upside down with winders in but it does help make them a nice fit, stops them sliding & rattling around. You can get more Drennan or Rive winders in than if you use the Fox one’s.

Oggy, top draw is difficult to open when you’re sitting on it. But I thought about how often I went rooting for new rigs mid-match (not very) and thought I could put up with the inconvenience.

                      Otherwise box is spot on

The top tray is difficult to open if you sit on the box first with out opening it.It opens easily enough if you just lift your bum check slightly it opens .From then on it opens easily at all times(I am 6ft 3 and heavy.Thought it was just me why the tray would not open). The issue with the winder tray that does bug me is if you need a rig at the back of the tray you cant get it out without completly removing the tray.
Other than that i love the box.Lots of storagein the other trays, comfey cushioned seat, lighter than my old Milo.Ithought the spiret levels were a gimick but i use thenm all the time.

Thats something that has surprised me about modern seatbox’s as my 17 year old watercraft box stops the trays from coming all the way out and its something I get used to so if I buy a new box I can see myself throwing trays all over the bank.

how many more rive winders can you get in compared to the fox ones?

a fox try takes 28 plus 2 long ones if i’m correct?

                              Slab
I’ve taken the Fox winders out of the top drawer & replaced the rear ones with Orange Rive winders, these hold my margin rigs & i dont need to pull the drawer out completely to take one out.

                              Feederman222
A drawer unit will take 30 Green Rive winders & 2 Yellow(250mm)Fox winders or 32 Yellow & 2 Yellow Fox.
A tray unit will take 32 Green Rive & 2 Yellow Fox or 40 Yellow Rive & 2 Yellow Fox or 24 Pink Rive winders.

I think that the Drennan winders are about the same as the Rive.

                              Hope that helps.

                                Cheers Decaff,

not sure whether to swap my Rive for one, might save my back liftinging it in and out the car…..lol

I had another look at the MSB System 1 today and whilst the top winder tray didnt open easilly at first I just had to shift my weight slightly and it opened nice as ninepence.

In all honesty I’m sold on it now so I just need to strike a deal.
