Pitsford Water week ending September 27th

        Fish week 428 (13,567) Returns 149 (3,924) Rod average 2.8 (3.4)
A group of Welsh anglers enjoyed their three day boat package at Pitsford Water this week. Efion Davies who organised the group had a great time catching on hoppers when it was cloudy. In sunny conditions the fish went down deeper so the group then went on to use Di 3 lines with lures to great effect. Will Davies, from Rigydlwyd, caught the best Rainbow of the week at 6lb 10oz.

Fish have been out in the middle so drifting boats are still the best bet, along with the rudder. Fish are now starting to turn their sights to fry. Seagulls are great indicators and have been spotted working together with the trout in the main basin. Look out for flocks of birds over the water and this will indicate the area where trout are pushing up coarse fish fry, with fry patterns well worth a try.

Bank anglers have been catching on the Cliffs bank and Stilton Point and the Gorse along with Stone Barn. It is recommended that a single fly and strong leader is used as fish are in excellent fighting condition and once hooked are running for the weedbeds.

The best Rainbow of the week was recorded by Craig Burnhope. Craig, of Northampton, boat fished to catch this fine fish. David Backman recorded the best Brown of the week at 6lb. Brian Moore of Ibstock caught his eight fish limit from the boat on Sunday by drifting close to the weedbeds and fishing on the rudder. Brian caught Rainbows and Browns up to 4lb 8oz on both days.

Boat angler Brian Moore caught his 8 fish limit on Saturday and Sunday by drifting close to the weed beds and fishing on the rudder. Brian caught rainbows and Brown trout up to 4lb 8oz on both days.

Season permit holder John Fletcher has boat fished twice this week and fished traditional patterns to take home 15 fish in 2 visits.

Fly fishing legend Steve Parton boat fished on Wednesday this week taking 11 fish whilst fishing the rudder.

Over the weekend anglers have reported fish moving closer to the bank. It looks like fish are moving closer to the weed beds to feed on shield back beetles and snails, along with corixa. Banks have been fishing well with the weed beds starting to develop bigger holes in them. More areas are fishable and late evening visits have been producing more fish than morning sessions.
