Del-boyParticipantHi all, I’m travelling down from Glasgow to Warrington this week to see family. I can take in a match on Thursday. I think Partridge and Brookside both have matches on Thursdays. Any info on either of these venues including target species, draw times etc etc etc would be appreciated.
Cheers in advance.~clap ~clap ~clap

trickyPartridge 9-30 draw, fish 10-30 til 3-30.
pools £17 all in, which includes £1 for bonus peg which stands at £400.
Ide, F1’s, Mirrors and Commons, usually plenty of bites and fish.

AnonymousPartridge and Brookside are completely different types of venues in the way that they fish under match conditions.
Brookside,s snake lakes are much more technical venue where getting everything right on the day can see you catching quality fish. If you can get the venue sorted on the day. You can very quickly catch up and compete for the win even after a slow start. I would suggest that the Snake lakes at Brookside are a less peggy match venue than Covey pools at Partridge. Especially, when there are good turn outs and most pegs are used for the matches. Brookside normally gives better more consistent fishing in the winter than Covey pools at Partridge.
At Partridge, your fishing for smaller fish and is much more of a race for those who are drawn on fish in high numbers. However, there are areas that hold very few fish. The fish tend to follow the wind more at Partridge than at Brookside. You also have to deal with the differences between the 4 pools at Partridge. Its very difficult to play catch up at Partridge if you have a slow start in your match. I would also suggest that you can win by using more baits at Brookside than at Partridge. This means that you dont have to follow the in method/bait to feel that you can compete. You can do well by fishing to your strengths. That as to be a bonus if your new to either venue or dont fish either venue regularly!

andy85Participantalright steve im gonna disagree wit you here an say brookside is alot peggier than partridge im afraid. brookside is gettin won every week near enough by the anglers who catch the ide early if u dont draw on these ur knackered. iv been goin partridge quite alot recently an would say its very fair venue even more so on a sunday when there more anglers an the weights are down slighty. i think del boy is just goin for a one off match on thurs an to compete 1st time at a new venue is hard enough as it is. i would say if u want a decent days fishing go partridge 50lb on nearly if not every peg midweek

AnonymousHi Andy. I agree that on Thursday,s you do tend to get more space as you suggest. So, there are more bites from more pegs on Partridge if you know what your doing. There might be 50lb to be caught from a lot of pegs for those who are tuned in on the venue but is 50lb even competing? You also have to take in to consideration that your at the top of your game, mate. For the average match lad to turn up and fish a one off match on Partridge and expect to catch 50lb off any peg is good going. Not many of the match lads we know and we fish against regularly are able to put 50lb together in a one off match unless they are on a shed full of fish at Partridge. However, at Brookside, its less of a race. So, there is more time for them to adapt. Most of those matches on a Thursday have been won with 100lb+ and up to 200lb. So, 50lb is not even competing in my honest opinion. The results at the weekend are much closer as you suggest when there is less space between pegs. However, there are areas with fare fewer fish and its almost impossible to play catch up if you have a bad start. The 90s being a good example of an area where 30lb is a very good weight and that section is dominated by pegs 99/100 for that section.
At Brookside, i believe you can compete off most pegs and can play catch up if you dont catch early. Its not so much of a race and a lot more baits/styles work. I was 3rd on my only visit to Brookside this year with 60lb of quality F1s and carp on paste. I never fished for ide. 70lb won the match! I think there was 10 50lb+ weights on that day and most caught 40lb. I dont turn up much at Brookside these days. However, as you know. I do a few matches each year and im never fare away from the money when i do fish at Brookside. From a personal point of view. I find it much more difficult to sort out Partridge lakes quickly and compete than at Brookside if i,ve not been on either venue for a while. I think it takes a few visits to tune in to Partridge. Whereas, at Brookside you can adapt and sort the venue out during individual one off matches.

chosserParticipantwhat a load of tosh ,del is my mate and he will be ringing monday and he will be off to partridge ,if you dont know how to catch brooky fish you will be biteless ,and as for you cant make ground up at partridge course you can ,del just wants to catch some fish ,
you also have a big trumpet true is it a brass one or a chrome one? -
26/09/2010 at 9:52 pm #117242
andy85Participanti would say more enjoyable at partridge thou 5 hour match average weights are 50-60lb midweek where as brookside is 6 1/2 hour matches average weights prob 40lb. last thurs jonesy had 144lb an i think 60 odd was 2nd thats very peggey. an its because there is so few anglers goin there now they have loads of room so someone could be sat in an area full of fish like 43 for example wit no one to peg 50 or 36 so its just like pleasure fishing. each to there own thou but id pick partridge an brooky was my fav venue at one time so what does that say. i spent 6 year fishing there week in week out but its not as much fun now.

AnonymousDid not realise Brookside,s matches on Thursday,s where so small now Andy. If there are only a few turning up. Then, i would agree with you that it becomes very peggy with a few pegs/anglers able to dominate. In my experience, its a much more consistent match venue when more anglers are on it so the fish cannot back off in to quiet areas and allow a few anglers to bag up. As you know. I was a regular at Brookside at one time as well. The matches where well attended at that time and the fishing was very fair with lots of pegs able to produce winning weights. I always felt that i could compete from most pegs as im sure you did. Your results suggested that you could normally compete from most pegs. I only stopped attending those weekend matches because the venue had become over grown and it was in need of lots of work to bring it back to the way it use to be.
Chosser, pull your neck in, mate. Im only giving my opinion based on my experiences on both venues. Admitedly, Andy fishes both venues in mid week much more than me. Andy has one of the best records on Partridge and quite a few venues in the NW. If you or your mate are not catching from the off on Partridge. Then, you and him will be pools fodder. There is no playing catch up if Andy and a few others are caching early on that venue.
-
26/09/2010 at 10:36 pm #117248
andy85Participantyeah thats what its like now. too much space. if it was every other peg say 30 40 anglers would be a fair venue but its not anymore. we cut all the pegs back in spring coz mick wouldnt do it an got no thanks or out so dont bother wit the place now. needs a restock in my opinion and a little work and be back to its best. fish are getting bigger on the coveys now too an at the present its just about right fishing for about 60 to 80 fish to win. i had 75 today for 74lb an 3rd overall an thats off pool 2 so should be bang on next year that place then we will finally have a decent fishery around here for once 🙂

AnonymousYou did a good job, mate. It did need cutting back big time. I was pleased with the look of the snake when i was on it and was thinking of having a few more visits this year. I was even thinking of Brookside becoming my main open match winter venue this winter when im not fishing in my normal winter league matches and pairs leagues. Partridge seemed to be to much of a race for me this summer. So, i,ve stayed away. I,ve been waiting for it to settle down and the results to become a little closer before returning. I still feel that the Covey pools needs a few more bonus fish. I want a few more bigger fish to target that can drag you back in to contention if your not drawn on a shed full of F1s. As the fish grow on. I guess we might get that from those pools. It defo has the potential to become the best match venue in the NW.
Those are quality fish for pool 2. Well done, mate!

AnonymousYes, there are a few carp in the 3lb bracket, Dave and Johnny. There are also a lot of carp in the 12oz to 2lb bracket. They will grow on with time and make a big difference if your not on a shed full of F1s. However, these carp are not big enough yet to target at the moment and there are not enough of them to make a massive difference if your not catching the F1s. The fishery had extra carp in the 2lb-4lb range ready to be stocked in the covey pools in the early spring. However, some of the match lads suggested that they did not want these bigger fish going in the pools. The argument was that you would need to catch a lot of F1s to equal those bigger carp and anglers would struggle to land these fish on F1 tackle. So, it was decided to not stock the extra carp in Covey pools. My thoughts where that if you where not on the F1s in numbers. Then there would have been some extra bonus fish to target and a change to put a big weight together with bigger fish. Those carp would not have made any difference to those anglers catching the F1s but could have given some anglers another option if struggling to catch the F1s.

AnonymousIf your talking about Covey pools, Chosser. Its not a bad match fishery but it could be much better. At the moment. Its F1s or nothing. Some extra bonus fish in the pools would give other options to those who are not drawn on a shed full of F1s. In time the carp that are in Covey pools will make a difference to the match weights. There will be other options other than targeting the F1s. However, at the moment. The carp are to small to make a real difference.
The reason for those match numbers is because there is nothing better close to home. Remember, there are 20 lads regularly fishing Cudmore or Heronbrook who travel from Liverpool. There is probably another 20 traveling from Manchester to those 2 fisheries. If Partridge was as good or better than those two fisheries. Then most of those NW anglers would fish Partridge instead of traveling 50/60 miles for a good days match fishing.

andy85Participantthere is loads of ide now steve too which keep bites comin most of the day. when did u last go coz it might bit a little differant from what u think its like. i would say its a better match water than brewsters an suez an places like the old canal at heronbrook coz ur not drawing for say 20s on suez or the sticks at hb. partridge is more about drawin the right end of the lake which could be half the pegs and sometimes like weekend bein out of the wind not as predictable as last time i saw ya there when pegs like 84 85 dominated top 3 was all off differant lakes weekend and differant parts of the lake too

TF_Johnny MacSteve, you just need to draw near Andy, then you know you’re on the fish 🙂

27/09/2010 at 11:05 pm #117362
AnonymousThose ide have always been in Covey pools, Andy. They have now grown on quite a bit this year so are useful in helping to build your weights. However, apart from the odd bigger carp. Its still F1 dominated and for most. Drawing a good peg is important if you want to compete.
Yes, the wind has always been a major part of drawing well. There will always be better pegs than others. Thats commercial match venues for you and that will never change. My point is that a few more bonus fish would give a few more options if your not catching F1s or the ide. I would like a few more options that some extra bonus fish might give if your not in tune with the venue or not drawn in a good F1 area.
No, i,ve not been on Partridge much this summer. However, i dont think the venue has changed very much from other seasons. Its fished well this year for some and you in particular but not all. The big difference from what i have seen is that your now in tune with those pools and your results are second to none. It was nt the case when we last talked on the fishery. Its not often that your out of the top 6 now. So, all credit to you. You draw as many bad pegs/areas as me or any of the others who fish on those matches. Ignore Johnny. He just wishes he was as good as you, lol. So, its down to what your doing. Rather than where your drawing. Its for others to sort the venue out and catch up with how your fishing those pools. However, from a personal point of view. I would like a few more bonus fish to target and so more options. From your point of view. Im not surprised that your happy with the venue. Its been very good to you this year!
40 of the best NW anglers traveling to Cudmore/Heronbrook every weekend does suggest that Partridge still has some way to go before its the equal of those 2 match venues. But, i get what your getting at.

andy85Participanti know what ur sayin about bigger fish gettin u out of trouble problem is anymore fish in the place would prob mean a fish kill so dont think that will happen for a bit. it is prob the most stocked place in the northwest. cuddy aint gettin 25 anglers on there matches are they? if they are then the likes of jay an john t are not goin no more they come there now. says sumat when the likes of andy moors comes there every week when he has them 2 on his doorstep. attendances r the best in the northwest wit some good crack anglers goin week in week out now. i agree wit bob nude im not gonna drop names but imo id say the standard of anglers is up there wit anywhere else in the nw circuit

depends what pools ur on i think ur on 1 an 3 tomoz so best pegs on 1 are 1,20,2,4,19,8 an on pool 3 72,75,50,52,54,66,68 if the winds id the same as today that is. they do follow it but they have been the best pegs. if johhny mac goes thou he will be on 72 or 75 :-). as for where to fish everybody does it differant but i would think maggot at the bottom of the far slope to be the best line if its hard. u can catch across but its goin clear so wouldnt bank on this line. just fish maggot tidy an if ur on fish it should fish itself really.

pellethead76i felt a bit embarrassed not~sick ~sick i knew it wouldnt fish aswell as saturday the fella on 75 was flying fish a bung and i was praying he would let a few fish past. the weirdest thing was i never caught were i caught on the saturday, i kept telling myself the fish were in the peg and i had to just find were they were 🙂 took me 3hrs to find em but 80lb or 90lb was never on the cards mids 70s was achieveable suffered a few foul hookers but not enough to push 2nd place

TF_Johnny MacI didn’t realise 75 was in, what did he weigh?
I had a few foul hookers on Sat, kept coming back with mirror scales. Also lost a 3lb’er at the net, cost me the match 🙁 I only had 50 fish with 90 min’s to go, went on a different line and had another 41 fish.
There are loads of fish in that stretch, but like you say, you’ve got to find them early. -

pellethead76think72/75 both had 35 to 40lb i was lucky to tell u the truth as peg 75 tried to imitate every line i fished and peg72 fished shalla for most of the match then went on deck and then caught a few basically hed fished midweek and caught a load shallow but as everyone knows weekends are different less room. the peg next to the bridge 70 or 71 had 60lb but i reckon it was worth a lot more proper massive load of scum next to the bridge, also the winner drew peg83 peg84 was empty and peg82 got off home didnt go to his peg
