all i used to fish was a 6gram pellet wag m8 2-4ft deep feedin 8mms. they always used to turn up if u drew anywhere near the sticks that pegs 6-14 and 25-33ish failing that u can catch skimmers an a odd carp on pellet long feeding micros an 4mm expander on the hook. 40lb is possible on caster but might not win u anythin. the carp average 4-6lb an try to get you in the sticks everytime. if i was u i would tie up at least 10 hooklentghs of 0.22 for the wag as there very angry. the lake is on average 6-8ft deep in most places. shipping back is a nightmare too thats why i tend to just fish the wag

go as close to the sticks as u dare really i tend to fish around 10ft off them thou or u will just lose loads. method/ bomb can work but its very snaggy they just tend to sit shallow around them sticks

TF_leemurphBig Finn, when i used to fish it, all i ever used to fish on there was paste, feeding a pinch of hemp everytime and bits of paste at the same time. As said previous it is a nightmare shipping back but if you are coming back with fish upto 6lb everytime (although there are bigger ones in) then does it matter? Fishing it as far out as you are comfortable, perhaps just use smaller pieces, but if they are still coming shallow then they still having it. The sticks are the best pegs though. Hope this helps.

TF_leemurphAlrite mate, when i have fished there we have been pegged on the sticks. I have generally fished it at 14.5m’s, and have had bites come pretty quickly. You can get near the sticks on the early pegs b4 it goes round into the bowl so to speak but even on here i have still caught well on it.

The whole of Lake 4 is a snag pit ..you will encounter anything from old rods dragged in to umbrellas blown in and branches and brambles galore in the margins.. sadly the upkeep of the place has slipped year after year.. i used to fish the place when they first introduced the carp as 4-6 oz fish …like andy said nowadays they look for cover around the sticks ,although the wall side can turn up trumps fishing pole shallow 6 and 8 mm pellets.. take an extending bankstick with a cushioned landing net head to act as a tall roller as these pegs have a sharp fall away bank behind..watch out for the dozens of muppets who walk around during the match its not baliffed very well …enjoy…~think

TF_JohnCKhv’s been comfirmed at Bradshaws, not sure what number but maybe it’s a wake up call that place needs.

TF_Big FinnParticipantWell that was interesting, Bob Nude your spot on with your comments mate~clap , i personally drew peg 15 in the corner and didnt have any carp (lost 1) just had skimmers and roach, everyone else who drew on the sticks caught but had a mare with snags, i say that between everyone (18) we lost around 30 feeders and a few pellets wags~sick ~sick , the other thing about this place is the people walking round the lake while we were fishing, we had 6 sections broke due to this and other anglers even tried to come and sit between us….~sick
We asked the anglers who were walking around if they had asked at the hut where they could fish and apparently the ladie told them to fish anywhere they could fit in….~naughty ~naughty ~naughty
The place is a crap hole and will never have another penny from our club…….~hand
Rant Over !!!

TF_Johnny MacI’ve fished a few matches on the annual silver series, on lake 4. They are well attended and the fishing is great, loads of skimmers and roach. It’s ok at that time of year because most of the idiot’s don’t play out. I would never fish there in summer, for the reasons you have stated!!!

TF_Big FinnParticipantDont get me wrong Johnny i had a bite a chuck with the silvers and could easily done 40lb if i had really tried, fished lighter ect ect, so that was soem good sport and made a change. But there can be no excuse for everything else, and the worse thing is the bailiff/owners dont really care.

TF_Smedyer i know what you mean/how you feel
them branches should have been took out years ago due to fish welfare! the amount of line, hooks, feeders, floats and tethered fish they hold must be frightning!
i think the place is up for sale and has been for a while!
a lot of guys i fish with remember when it was first stocked with carp around the lb mark
they was that many in there guys were swinging em in!
more of a race than a match!the saying round here is if you get a carp that has lips you get a bonus!
complete sh1thole in summer but ive been told the silver fish matches in the winter are second to none in the north west!
a real shame! -

Bob NudeParticipantBig Finn … sorry to hear about your bad experience, but not suprised about the comments..its such a shame about the place really as its black with fish in every lake..as one other member posted ,the silver fishing in the winter has probably got to the best in the north … even when its had cormorants on lake 4 last year ..not to mention the resident mink population…will probably get sold for a song eventually and maybe get the right kind of owners who care about the fish a bit more …coz its only been greed and neglect that has put it were its is now … what makes me annoyed is the money that myself and others have spent there over the years and its still the same old shit tip..shame really as in its early days was up ther with some of the better places .. some fond memories ..maybe it can have a future~think
