TF_Mike Herringtonjust linking in with another topic on here – look at how many youngsters made the final!!!!
-
18/10/2010 at 8:18 am #119118
TF_JohnHCongratulations Lee, this was one heck of a tough field! I said last week how hard it looked and boy what a week. Its great to see so much youth coming through, this counters one argument about lack of youngsters in the sport.
Just a couple of observations, no Ringer in the final. Phil was obviously in tune with the lakes as he almost won the Maver but clearly they did not have everything their own way. Just a couple of bad section draws I supose and its all over thats how tough competition is.
Alan Scothorne can rarely have finished last in any match he has fished. His peg on Jennys though was one of the worst on the lake. He too was in tune as he has been down there for both festivals but if the peg is poor there is nothing you can do.
Thanks Kirsty for keeping us informed look forward to your write up and the Sky coverage on TL. -

TF_carpmagicParticipantJohn, it was a really tough field this year. On a personal level Twin oaks 2 and Bolingey peg 1 finished my chances and those of anyone else that drew them during the week. Never mind, theres always next year. As for Alan he never had a hope from that peg, nor did Kieron to be fair either.

TF_JohnHKnow what you mean about peg one Bolingey Steve, it does however look a very good peg.
As for T/O 2 it has thrown up some very good weights and seemed to me to be competing with T/O 1.
Is it just very peggy?
Both T/O lakes were dire the week before the Maver when I was down, they have been hammered all summer. That said the rover was won off t/o 2 peg19 but back up weights were poor.As a layman it just reasures me that even the best cannot compete if the draw bag throws up a bad peg. Some of us just feel its like that all the time.

TF_carpmagicParticipantSorry John i meant Twin oaks peg 2. The high numbers on twin oaks actually fished very well this year, by that i mean the second lake.

TF_NW Cut AnglerIn terms of the final? Is Jenny’s peggy? or can you win from lots of different pegs? does wind direction play a huge part?
Alan must have drawn a stinker

TF_JohnHJennys is a great lake with islands and many features. It had been used in the festival and had coped well with the pressure. There were however a lot of fish in a big bay 15,16 17 and 18. If you check the result all these pegs finished in the top 10 and featured as section winners over the festival. Lots of other pegs on Jennys come into play I think Des won it off peg 1 a couple of years back it has also been won in the high numbers by Grant and Adam.
Fish have fins and obviously move around so its never the same year in year out. Overall this lake is very good as its not all about carp many species come into play. Where Alan was is a bit shallow and to my knowledge has no form at all. -
18/10/2010 at 1:56 pm #119147
TF_carpmagicParticipantThats pretty much spot on John as regards Jennies. Pegs 15-20 are probably the most consistant as thats where the bigger Carp seem to live. Other than that there is a lot of F1’s in the area 40-42 where Adam and Grant won from. Then you have the very consistent peg 1 where Des lives! Other than that peg 8 is always a decent area but where Alan and Kieron plus Cameron hughes drew its very shallow and your chances are pretty much over at the draw.

TF_Snooty Foxyeh – gettin to the top 24 is hard enough but near on impossible with porr draws. Phil drew really poor all week and as you rightly say Steve, those 2 draws on T.O. and Bolingey stuffed your week completely.
A half decent draw and the top anglers SHOULD qualify (eg Adam Wakelin)On a personal note, I didn’t draw too bad but strangely enough had the 2 best results of the week from 2 pegs and the 2 worst results of the week from 2 pegs ~sick …….and my diaster at porth goes – dropped fags in water 5 mins before start, broke 11mtr section 1 hour in, came last in section chasing bream last 2 hours, fell in (fully submerged) at the weigh in, left my net bag at the boat ~sick

TF_NW Cut AnglerAre pegs 2 and 7 very different from the similarly numbered pegs? They seem to have fared far worse and I know the anglers concerned are quality anglers.

18/10/2010 at 4:51 pm #119161
TF_GaryPeg 1 is obviously the end peg and, I may be wrong here, but I think peg 8 has the point of the island, whereas 7 only has open water. I am sure someone else will correct me on this if I am wrong (quite possible!)
-
18/10/2010 at 5:00 pm #119165
TF_carpmagicParticipantPeg 1 is an end peg and had always held fish, peg 2 is just not in the same league. As for 7 and 8, 8 does have the point but there was a big gap between 8 and 15 which i believe would also have helped.

TF_NW Cut AnglerCheers chaps. The spacing between pegs with the inclusion of selected numbers must have an influence although I daresay the hot winning areas are just that irrespective unless the wind become a significant factor.
Does anybody think / know if there are any plans with these big events to raise the bar above 25K? We seem to have been stuck on 25K for a good few years now.

kee lerryThanks for all the kind comments guys.
Absolutely over the moon with that result. I know you have to be in the right area and pegs to win these matches, as the standard of angler is so high.
I was in such an area and am so pleased I managed to make the most of it.
Buzzin!
Thanks again

Micky, I’m writing it up right now and it will be my column in Match fishing magazine.
Worms and pellets where the main baits. Caught a lot of fish shallow on the day too.
Hope you enjoy it.
