It may be old news for some, but are you aware that the Getty corporation are trawling the internet looking for photos that they hold copyright on and sueing anyone using them without permission?

Fine you say they hold the copyright, but are you also aware they could be holding copyright on a picture you took that you uploaded to the likes of facebook and Flickr, that you are using on your website.. allegedly they have been buying up rights to photos on such places without the original posters knowledge by using some loophole or waiver that you may have ignored when posting.

My advice would be to anyone that posts photo’s or images they own and have taken to embed details in the image that show when and where you took it, and to make copies and keep the originals on file.

In some cases you might have to go to the extreme of mailing the images details by recorded post to yourself in a wax sealed envelope that you never open unless challenged.

I for one, now have the tedious task of updating the Doglane Fishery website and putting image copyrights on every image we use despite being able to prove they are ‘ours’.

If you use Picasso ( free from google )

you can batch edit and water mark all your pics very quickly and easily.

Most images have to run through an editor to reduce the size anyway and its a one pass operation

            Hope that helps

Cheers Justin, have got all the image manipulation and watermarking etc software, but it’s the proof of ownership that’s most important to be able to demonstrate and to be certain that ownership has not been indirectly transferred.

Here’s the link to an article that sparked my concern…End of the internet

Having read the article I don’t think there is anything to worry about

The whole thing is a scam just like the fake parking tickets what they are sending people is an Invoice as far as debt collectors go you can tell them to take a run and jump or use better words if you wish,

Unless you have been taken to court and a judgement has been made in there favour they are pissing in the wind

To take hundreds of thousands of people to court just wont happen, what they do is threaten you with what looks like legal stuff hoping you will pay, great work if you can get it, there was a situation a few weeks ago with downloaded software and Pirate Bay you may remember they were hacked and all the company details were released and their website defaced they may have even gone into receivership now they were doing simialr.

If thisoutfit gets too big the powers that be on the interweb will do exactly the same and they will be defaced.

As for your own material its easy to watermark stuff as you know and make it unique just add a copyright notice to everysite you post on

                I wouldnt be too concerned
