TF_JohnHWatched the prog and loved it. If I can be critical the final result was not known for sometime and there was no footage of Grant fishing at all, even when it was looking unlikley that Pete or Darren would win. I understand why but the casual observer will not have a clue. It looked like a programmme made by anglers for anglers.
As I say I loved it but to improve I think a little more explanations may be required to broaden its appeal. -

TF_mickeymNigel watched all of them and i enjoyed them all.
In my eyes there is not enough (if any) televised match fishing on TV, in particular following a top level matchmen through a match, that to me would educate people no end.
Some may find this boring, others however may find it beneficial.
A great series by the way!
Mike

TF_Nigel.Thanks, i appreciate your criticism too.
I am well aware of the problem around filming the winner.
Its imposable for Rob Hughes to get a picture of whos winning a section when every angler lies to him though.
Thats the biggest problem making the problem, you miss the winner, as you walk down each section you ask how there doing, and they all say the same, ‘no good mate’ then weigh in 50lb, or 100lb or whatever!
If the angler could give a good estimate of how they were doing, we could film the winner, and film the section winners and the overall winners!
Next year i will be telling everyone, PLEASE give a reasonable estimation of how your doing, as it will make for a better TV show. -

TF_BacseyParticipantI thought it was great series and enjoyed it very much,it would be nice to see a few more floats go under or rods going round but maybe thats the angler in me and the buzz it gives. How easy is it to get in the comp and how much does it cost,i fancy having a go next year depending on cost and dates etc,i think there are matches to quilify, when do the dates for these come out.

TF_CutnutHere’s a Link…contact page
Top 40 from this year get automatic entry into series, 40 other places are fished for in qualifying rounds at Barston.
Most of these qualifiers are oversubscribed apparantly so getting in early would be advisable. Not sure if previous years Top 40 also fish in the qualifiers (just for the practice) or if they are excluded to give more people a chance to qualify.
I seem to recall the qualifiers are fished midweek but I might be confusing that with other events that get to Barston. Nigel will let you know I’m sure as fresh blood is needed in all these comps otherwise it’s the same old faces framing. Who knows you might get to topple a few off their perches :0)

TF_rocketFeederBrilliant tv. Really enjoyed it. Would of liked to of seen the presentation of the trophy/money to Grant at the end, would of been a great ending to the series. Other than that a big well done to those that made it happen.~clap

TF_JohnHNigel, I understand your comment ref filming all the potential winners. I think everyone was carried away with the Darren v Pete thing which obviously fell a bit flat!
We knew that Chris V or Grant (and some others whose names escape me) were in with a shout if the two leaders crashed, which unfortunatley for them they did, so I would have thought just a short slot filming them would have been usefull even if it had to be edited out. We didnt even get to know how Grant caught.
I am being picky and I do sympathise when anglers tell porkies but its in the blood I fear. Perhaps an observer behind each angler and a bit of a board recording and estimating weights would be in order, after all the international boys manage it bank running the world champs. -

TF_Serious SamObviously knew the result but it was still required viewing ~clap
Honestly I think it’s the best match fishing coverage I’ve ever seen on TV, and that includes the fisho.
Well done Nigel, please do more mate.

Tubbs TubsonThe coverage on the telly was spot-on IMO…you have to remember that the series only got 4 x 20-odd minute slots, so they had to cram a heck of a lot in…I know ‘cos I was lucky enough to fish it this year..!
It was THE most enjoyable series of matches I’ve ever fished and although I came 60th or something (crap draws..!) I shall be first in the queue for the qualifiers.
Advice to anyone who fancies a crack…GET IN THERE..!!
Expensive it may be (cost me over £500 to fish the four rounds in total), but it’s well worth it.

AnonymousGot to agree with Tubbs, anyone who fancies having a crack at the UK’s should go ahead and do it.
I fished it for the first time this year mainly for two reasons..1. I was told that its a great comp to be involved in and it is i can tell you.
2. I wanted to see if i was good enough to mix it with the top guys ?
The first round was a little nerve racking but as the comp moved on i seemed to settle into it nicely.
Most of the guys fishing it are real friendly and helpful and make you feel welcome.Nigel & Rob do a fantastic job and really make the whole thing worth while so i’m really looking forward to being a part of next years comp now..Roll on 2011.

TF_Nigel.It certainly is expensive, it cost £60 per match PLUS £20 an the day!
But, it is a total payout 0f £23,000, and that is only £4,000 to the overall winner, (paying top 10) and £1000 each match winner, and £150 each section win, so the money is well paid out.I am delighted you enjoyed it, i enjoyed running it, and the TV came out brilliant.
Thanks of course to Preston who sponsored it, and made it possible to get it onto TV.

TF_mike pattinsonNigel
Coming from an area dominated by the Game scene it’s great to see something that promotes and that it did, our side of the sport.
I’ve had several youngsters asking about and talking about the coverage.
Unfortunatley I only saw the last two both excellent, so one question; can a copy of them all be got anywhere.

TF_CoxyReally enjoyed watching it mate, would have loved longer episodes as it felt a bit crammed at times but essentially i thought it was the best bit of angling TV for years. Much better than Nobson Breem!!!

TF_Nigel.Thanks for the compliments.
As for the lenth of the programes, It cost £6,000 to run and to flim for 4 x 1/2 hour programmes.
Its no secret, i have end of year accounts.
I found the money from the main sponsor Preston, and fisheries giving the peg fees, and still managed to pay out the same, (23 grand) so i cant raise any more money for longer programs. It took some doing getting it televised as it was, i was committed to paying for it until Preston stepped in.
They are delighted with the series though, so everyone’s happy!
