  As a student, i am often skint, so i have been breeding worms for the last 6 months. This week i finally felt i had enough to take a good clump while knowing there will still be enough to keep breeding rapidly.
  
  Background info aside…
  
  Up until to today i had never fished chopped worm and caster so hearing good reports about lindholme fishing well with this method recently i headed there this morning. I spoke to neil on arrival and fished strip peg 1.
  
  I set up three lines, 45deg to my right to the bank, straight ahead in open water, and 45 deg left in open water, all about 9 metres. I fed each with a pinch of chopped worms & caster, a pinch of micros and 3/4 grains of corm.
  
  After a slow start i had an hour where i was netting once every 5/10 minutes or so with some nice 5lb+ carp, mainly from my left hand line.
  
  All lines then went completely dead for 3 hours.
  
  Any idea what i may have done wrong or may it just have been one of those things? as no one around me seemed to catch anything all day, and seemed to be looking on in envy during my hour spell.

  did you carry on feeding worm/caster.a pinch is not very much when on feeding fish.

  yep, a decent sized 3 finger pinch of worm/casters and the same of micros.
  
  i was concious not to feed too much with it being quite cold, maybe i was over cautious?
  
  It did seem though the people around me were feeding much more and catching nothing though, which at the time reassured me in what i was doing.

  i fished on big bash on laurels on sat and my swim died after feeding to much choppy been hard fishing over weekend.

  Sounds like the same as what happened to me although i didnt feel like i was feeding too much as i went about it pretty cautiously.

  apart from the time of day did anything else significantly change in your peg different to your hour of catching? Like flat calm to ripple or vice versa, the sun go in or a shadow form over the swim you were catching on.
  
  I’ve had this happen and sometimes found that the fish have backed away either into a warmer spot or on the edge of a ripple. Coming off deck can sometimes induce a bite from fish that are just hanging about but not really feeding.
  
  You may not have done anything wrong with your feeding, this time of year some waters just switch off and it’s surprising how precise that cutoff time can be.
  
  At Dog Lane when the large pool was used for matches in the Autumn/Winter you could almost set your watch by the feeding period.

  You dont say what you had on the hook, sometimes the fish wise up and will just take the casters or micros. Sometimes you have to fish a little off your feed. I also find you have to lower your hookbait with your feed, the fish seem to watch for the hook bait so you have to try and trick them. If bites dry up I usually find it better to ease off the feed or feed differently, by catty for example. If you cannot get bites you have to change something as I dont think the fish clear off, they are just smarter than you think.
  I had a session here with Alan S for charity and what he taught me was mind boggeling, for example feeding, changing from 6 casters to three for example turned a bitless spell into a fish a chuck. Also plumb carefully before you decide where to feed, swim selection is vital.
  Use small hook lengths and light hooks etc.
  If you are not getting bites you must do something differently as the fish are still there. How you shot up also can make all the differece so work at your fishing, thats what the best anglers do all the time.

  Too late for worm now in my opinion, maggot or pellet will be better but often lakes fish well for 1st and last hour, crap in the middle!
