you can either keep in in damp leam in the paper at bottom of fridge or keep it in a bucket/cat litter tray with an airstone bubbling away to keep it aerated.

The best way to keep it is in a large bucket of water with aerators and airstones, riddling the joker and changing the water every other day. If you do not want to invest in aerators then place in a shallow tray and cover in just enough water so that it looks like a writhing jelly. If you’re fishing worm venues regularly then it’s well worth the effort as it will be in tip top condition for each match. However the initial outlay can be expensive as you will need a pump, airstones and a decent joker riddle and tray (sensas do a good one).

Also worth investing in a fine mesh aquarist’s net to help when changing the water daily. When I was team fishing I used to follow the routine outlined by Andy G throughout most of the winter and the results of using top quality joker made it worth the effort involved.

It depends what you are fishing for in some respects: I was fishing Tunnel Barn Farm regularly a few seasons back and leaving the joker in a bucket of leam seamed to slow it down a bit and by feeding that and frozen joker you caught better quality fish as the ‘bits’ didn’t seem as interested as if you were fishing ‘fresh.’

I have gone down the tank and airstone route and the improvement to your bait can be incredible as the bait is purged and becomes bright red and incredibly active. IF I was fishing for roach using joker as bait I would probably do this but it is a bit of a faff riddling the joker off twice a day (Once you have got rid of the slow and dead joker they do go through the riddle quicker. Freeze anything you take off.)

If you dont want to invest in a bubbler, just buy a couple of shallow cat litter trays and split your joker into them then just cover them in water so it’s like jam( if you put too much water in without bubbler it drowns) then change water each day. I used to bubble it but started doing it this way about 5 years ago and find you lose less, also if it warms up you can put trays in fridge
