I’ve just received a new top two for my old model BMM.
        A couple of questions:-
It has a small cotton reel with some black thread on it. I take it this is dacron but there is no indication of the breaking strain. There is also a small plastic ring & a flat piece of rigid black plastic approx. 1 inch long by 1/4 inch wide.
Any ideas what this stuff is for?
Secondly the second section has a safety zone, 80mm long about 300mm from the bottom of the second section. What is this?
There is also an area with “Elasti Gate” printed on it. This is approximately 160mm long about 100mm from the bottom of the second section. I assume that the bung is to be positioned within this area?
Both these areas are marked by raised areas.
        Any clues, regards Peter.

the safty zone area is a place where you can drill a hole to fit a ptfe bush and have your elastic come out of the side wall as opposed to having a pull a bung inside…
          not sure about the rest???

actually ignore that as according to shimanos website the safty zone is just a small area thats been reinforced to cope with big fish
wouldnt want you drilling it (all though ive seen em drilled there!)

also the elastigate is explained in this article by John Arthur

thats probebly where you should drill em!

thanks smed. I think you can hold the section in the safety zone.

yeah looks like thats what its for…
i knew you could side drill em somewhere though!! lol
if you look at the pictures in the bottom of that article you will see what the small plastic things are for
looks a bit fiddly to me tbh and would just have the laccy coming out of the side with a small bead on it myself….
