        Hi Guys,

just checking my reels and after a year of abuse they are looking a bit dirty and tired.

whats the best way of cleaning the mechanism of a reel do you take them apart and oil them ECT and how often would you recommend doing this.

DONT WANT TO BUGGER THEM UP.~think

just give um a light oil mate
“if it aint broke dont fix it”
the last thing you want to do is take it apart and lose a cog or some thing

i have always given my reels a wipe down after every match a a light oil
did have a couple of shimano stradic reels that have a maintance srew that you just un did and added a couple of squarts of oil into the mech
          not sure about other makes

most reel manufacturers have drawings of the workings of the reels on their web sites and can be downloaded..if not just a quick phone call to them and they will send it out,so if you need to put he reel back together..its quite easy,as you can guess i do all my own reel servicing and its quite easy to do,cleaning wise..warm soapy water (i use a little washing up liquid) wash the reels down dry it..and use a thin oil and a quick spray with something like wd40 on to working parts.

sorry squeaks but don’t use wd40 on moving parts (it’s a vegetable based product I understand). It will dry out & can cause jamming! I sprayed it on the spool/spindle of a closed face reel & had big problems removing it. Reel/3in1 oil on any moving parts & wd40 on the reel as a whole.
              Regards Peter.
