Should be 4 degree’s C (done it in my pond as a kid when it froze and thats what I got) as any colder than that water becomes less dense and starts to float as ice. It is possible to super-chill the water mind by keeping it moving, probably as the movement stops the bonds forming between the molecules? Can be a dangerous thing to happen in garden ponds.

1 degree in my pond just under the ice
but my themometer is going through the ice so probs not a true reading….

              ice is 80mm thick btw!!

Depends on the depth. Water changes ‘character’ at 4 degrees and becomes less dense i.e ice is able to form as it cools further.
