TF_rayroyWhen the ice has melted and I can fish my club lake, I am going to try for the first time, using imitation corn on a quick-stop hook and a small bomb.
I have read that soaking the corn in a liquid additive can help, do I need to make any pin-holes in the plastic corn ?
Any comments please.
Thanks

TF_Chris-turnerParticipantI was bagging on the method one session I couldn’t stop catching , so I tried fake corn an it worked just aswell . Must admit tho for the sake of a price of real corn can’t see point , but I had to try it to see if it would catch me some fish.

TF_GavinYou’ll need to pre-spike it with a baiting needle if you want to quickstop it at you won’t push a quickstop through it! You can just hair rig it normally with a stop TBH, I’ve used the stuff speci fishing for years and have never lost a piece just using a standard hair stop.
As for flavouring it,it’ll take flavour in without holes but you don’t need to flavour it- my PB carp came from a local club lake not renowned for carp on two pieces of unflavoured rubber corn!

TF_D.W.Easiest way to flavour the imitation corn is to simply use the cap of the flavour bottle, place a few drops into the cap, pierce the rubber with a needle (Quickstop needle is perfect IMHO) then press the fake corn flat into the cap, hold for a few seconds then release the pressure. It draws the flavour into the rubber like a sponge. Once the flavour is in the rubber, it takes weeks for it to draw out fully. I have had imitation corn on a hair that has been flavoured out of water for 2 months, and it still smells of the flavour!
As Gavin says, you don’t really need to flavour it in all honesty for most of the year, but flavouring with an Ethyl Alcohol based flavouring can give you an edge as a single hook bait in cold clear water where feeding could kill the swim before it gets going.
Enterpise already supply the corn in small vials of flavourings from major bait manufacturers (on the specimen side) Nutrabaits, Richworth & Solar. These are of the pop-up variety though. The sinking stuff is best flavoured in the way I stated at the beginning of this post. -

TF_GavinI just leave a few pieces in an old 35mm film canister with a few drops of liquid flavour in (for speci fishing) I was going to mention the stuff Enterprise sell in vials of flavour as it seemed they already have the rubber corn!
As Darren said the flavour does stay in the corn for ages, I’ve had bits of it left for ages on hairs that still smell! Again, as Darren said this time of year the flavour is probably better than no flavour- I’ve caught a lot of fish both ways but don’t really speci fish in the winter.
If you want to go down the flavour route it’s easy just to get a few small containers with a drip flavour in and just leave the grains in it (prepared maize also keeps for ages in liquids!) and see what works where you fish!

TF_StewartNot sure if you can use it in matches, you would have to check local rules.
Check out the Mosella imitation corn it is the best I have seen. Comes in three colours white, red and yellow. It varies in size and more importantly it is the softest I have ever seen.

TF_Fred DavisUsing plastic corn where allowed will give you at times a distinct advantage over natural corn, but you need to check with the organisor of the match, I say this as artificial baits are not allowed in most NFA matches unless used with another natural bait on the hook,
mind I would have to check with the NFA rules or model match rules to be sure, the advantage fake corn like enterprise is that the corn presented on a hair rig does not get mashed up and need replacing like the real thing, when fish are really having it this saves an immense ammout of time in not having to rebait taking the mashed up real corn off of the hair and rebaiting costs time, I would personally seek out the enterprise sinking corn rather than their floating corn, although both types have there uses. First used it in a southern area match where corn was deadly I asked the organisor if it was Ok to use it and he said use what you Fcuking like so I did and won my lake (team event)by a country mile, can be brilliant for the reason it gives you much more time in the water less hassle than real corn when it works, like Gavin has said I have never lost a piece of fake corn yet, mind I use strong lines sometimes braided hooklengths on a method where allowed. -
