TF_fourcanalsJust put my nose in at KJS at Killamarsh The first pond is littered with carp frozen just under the surface my guess is what i can see 50 60 proper commons and mirrors. what a sorry site to see on the first day of the new year. The ice is still too thick to break so I fear the worst in this cracking little pond sad sad sad day.

TF_staffie50 or 60 carp~sick HOW BIG IS YOUR POND~think The thing people forget to do in this weather is to lift there pumps up from the bottom and put them mid water~naughty If you have a bottom drain then its best to add a pump also to keep the water moving and to put a bit of heat in it from the pumps motor.Unfortunately we learn the hard way.But any dead fish is a sad sight, hope you get it sorted and that you still have fish left.

TF_Leaky Lloydi think some effort should be made to keep an area of the ponds clear to allow the harmfull gases to escape , keeping the fish healthy!.
from what im told no efforts have been made!!
and i know its not nice to kick someone while they are down, but what does he expect?? he should have cleared holes or atleast tried to,,
it would seem the man doesnt give a dam for fish welfare !
a lesson to be learned i think ! -

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantAfter last years performance owners would have to be barking not to have broken the ice this year everyone was aware of the consequences.

Daddy BParticipantSadly I think this is going to be a common theme over the next few days. Frimley 2, which was a cracking specimen carp water, has by all accounts suffered badly and indications are has lost most / all of its stock. Would imagine a lot of shallow heavily stpcked commercial waters will be affected.

TF_badgerParticipantI’ve made some time in the last couple of weeks to visit a local still water close to home to keep a check on it and also clear some ice.So far things look okay ,I am going again tomorrow. The owners have also made some effort to break and clear the ice.My point is do we expect too much for our £5 day ticket (or what ever it costs). Why not, if your circumstance’s allow put a bit of effort in yourself to ensure the future of our fishing.

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantYou got a new ice breaker then Badger ? I know what your saying but some owners want to break it and some owners are anal about breaking ice and shocking fish, place your on about is well looked after and he has a baliff and Two other full time staff on hand some of these venues havent touched the ice and its 10 inch thick !

TF_yiddoMe and my dad went and broke the ice on 1 of our clubs waters the other day it was at least 5ins thick. I have been down again today now that the snow has all gone and i walked round the whole lake and only saw 6 dead carp between 12oz and 3lb so it looks like we have got through the worst with minimal fish loss

TF_badgerParticipantYes mate a new ice breaker, state of art it is, worth more than me pole, and it still wont break the ice.Used a pick and some elbow grease,as far as expecting fisheries staff to do all the work,I reckon its a bit too much to expect a 65 year old o.a.p. on less than minimum wage and a part time shop assistent to do all the work on their own.Can you see where I’m coming from,if a fishery owner dont want ice breaking thats fair enough, but it does no harm to ask.
Yiddo it looks like your efforts might have been done just in time well done mate. -

TF_fourcanalsleaky I had a conversation with ken swaine re the airators that Alex was using last winter in the lakes above, also being involved in the heating game pitched a few what i thought decent ideas to Ken regarding the freezing solid of ponds. obviously nothing has been done, and i wait to see the mortality rate suffered by the airated ponds as opposed to none It makes me feel that the next carp i catch will be treated with even more care and respect that after surviving this harsh winter

TF_Leaky Lloydaint heard about no dead fish at kjs aston but that may be due to it being spring fed so theres a constant flow of fresh water! and apparently, the 3 or 4 pegs that are fishable on the new snake lake are fishing really well

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantBadger I will start coming down and helping I didn’t envisage the ice been that thick and hard to break I haven’t been down since last match purely because working in retail and christmas spells out very limited time off but you have a valid point that crust of ice needs breaking
