After sitting in the rain all yesterday and having my maggots
foaming and crawling everywhere, it’s time to invest in one of these
stupid looking things (i dont like using an umbrella as i find it gets in
my way). I have a preston mega sidetray. So which bait umbrella is
best to buy for that set up? I believe the Preston one doesnt cover it?

        Thanks Mikey

Bait brollies will help – the Rive one is pretty big and has a clear panel to see your bait – BUT if its really wet your bait will eventually get wet as your hands and catapult will transfer water onto the bait…I dont have a solution, just pointing it out!

If its v windy make sure you put a guy rope on the brolly as if it catches the wind (lijke yesterday!) it may be enough to tip your box in.

A solution I use if the rain is horizontal is to put the bait boxes into stiff shopping bags, sideways with the opening opposite to the direction of wind.

Access to the bait and maximum protection from the rain.

Some of the Fox 2pt bait boxes came with a lid without holes. I just use those but eventually the bait gets wet. The only sure fire way is a brolly I am afraid.

I got a BOSS cover from my local shop which does the trick, its a white plastic hinged thingy that clips on to a 2pt bait box and looks like a wedge. allows you to put your hand in the box and the rain runs off the angled bit…

I am pretty sure that Preston make an adjustable cover for
the mega side tray ( I can’t remember how much they cost though).
I think that there is an opportunity for one of the tackle companies
to perhaps develop a baitbox with a hinged lid to overcome the need
to have to use a brolly in this situation.

I have a Hlakon Hunt bait brolly which is excellent on a preston off box arm, I had the preston bait brolly which was not as good or big.
It tilts so if its windy and rain its often better, as you angle it against the wind.

I’ve got a preston bait umbrella and use to keep my bait drying out but it does get in the way.

the senseless bait brolly is 1 metre square and is very well made.
with that and the mega side tray lid i can keep a portion of myself and the bait dry most days.

10/10 for ingenuity 0/10 for practicality!!

Good photos though, so 8/10 for artistic style
