TF_NickCmy wife bought me what i thought was realy good 3m daiwa rubba net early last year, nearly 60 quid. Took it out to use it yesterday on a match , attached it to my box, undid the angle lock , angled the net correctly , went to lock the plastic angle lock and hey presto snapped clean off in my hand, this has got to be the 4th or 5th set of nets i’ve gone through over a few years , angle locks are a nightmare design and far too weak for what they’re designed for. Written to daiwa but unlikely i’ll get a result of any sort. Unfortunatley my wife can’t remember where online she bought it from. I’ve had nightmares with daiwa landed net handles in past, extremely weak at end and inveriably snap where the thread is glued in, had 3 of those and they’re rubbish.
Got daiwa holdalls etc, all the zips are gone on tjhos now only a year of so old.
Why is it Daiwa make great rods and brilliant poles, and naff all else that’s any good? -

TF_GillboI too have a Daiwa Tournament rubba keepnet and two Team Daiwa rubba keepnets and the angle lock has broke on them all mate. I have had one fixed, I think it had a m12? bolt and thread adaptor put on it to fix the angle lock but I am not sure as a friend did it.
I will admit I do use the net to rest my feeder rod on and fish the tip regularly. However I think that the angle lock on nets should not break from this or simply putting fish into the net.
Like you I also had two Daiwa Tournament blue landing net handles and they both snapped at the thread. I now use Drennan 3.5m extra-strong net handles and have not had a problem since. -

TF_NickCI personnaly don’t think it’s China, i work with china every day of my life. When things go wrong or are made with lack of qaulity it’s almost alwas under the direction of the brand owner. The factory cannot make something unless the “brand” has designed and signed off as “approved” whatever item it may be.
most manufacturing in Cina is easily as good as anything we’ve ever had in europe. Things are cheap because that’s what the suppliers want, in order to sell more, theoreticaly!
The factories there do make mistakes, but this isn’t a mistake it’s a brand not doing what a brand should do, inferior design, top notch price without top notch componentry! -

TF_NickCMiracles will never cease , Daiwa replied by mail. “please return your item to the address below and our engineers will investigate”.
Great and quick, but what a b…dy nerve, which mug has to pay a courier to get it returned!!!!!!

MongloidMaybe if it had been purchaced from your local tackle shop (“remember them”) and not online, you would be able to return it and let them deal with it for you, and save you the couriers fee!

TF_NickCAh well that’s another debate, don’t have many left in my area, do have one or 2 decent ones.
A thought though, as I’m due a rant about now.
What is the difference between a good online supplier and a good local supplier?
example – why don’t good local suppliers have an online presence, most (not all) of the online tackle shops are shops on the high street somewhere! these are the ones who invest or put more work into making their business work. Absolutely nothing stopping “Fred Blogs Tackle shop” going online and delivering!!!!
I work in London every day and commute, rarely have time to visit local tackle shops, when i do not always they have the specific thing i require.
I’m all for tackle shops, great places full of information and generally nice people willing to help and give a little discount here and there, and of course sell bait!
But again what stops them opening up online? If they can’t afford to do that then their business is in trouble anyway as the cost can be quite low in comparison to average turnover/margins.
It’s the same in the business I’m in, if businesses do not change the way they work and move with what customers want/need then in the end they are doomed to failure, simple fact is if people don’t spend enough with you you collapse! -

TF_NickCJust to add as my rant goes on, before my regular tackle shop close a while ago it was quite a standing joke in there about how much i spent on a weekly basis, absolute fortunes!

TF_HillbillyI have two of the original Tourny nets also and they are still going strong as is a Milo one which is the same net with a Milo badge on. On my second Tourny Holdall as the first one ripped (my fault) and have the carryall also. Have had no problems with zips on either yet.

RivestI have used daiwa nets for as long as I can remember, the only one I have had to replace was when a frisky pike was trying to get at my roach on the river, never had issues with angle lock, used tourny luggage for years with no issues!
My only regret is selling a old colmic black sack type keepnet, if anyone has one let me know!

TF_Paul EdwardsMaybe I was lucky but I have two Tournament Keepnets and had one of the Black snap down handles break, so I contacted Daiwa who asked me too send the locking mechanism, which is only held on with two self tapping screws. I stated I had two nets and within a week I had received two new upgraded locks FREE OF CHARGE which are a much better design. So its thumbs up to Daiwa from me.

TF_paulDI fished a few matches at colemans cottage last year. They supply keepnets and have garbolino and browning keepnets. The nets I had were a bit battered but didn’t have any holes (unlike Stubpond) the toprings and tilt were ok. We were chatting to the owner afterwards and he has over 250 nets ! He only buys the browning nets now as they outlast everything else he’s tried. Hes had some of them 5 years and theyre sometimes used 4 times a week. He’s had a few on trial from other companies but none have lasted the pace.
I’ve got 2 of the Sensas nets and 2 cheapies. The Sensas ones are strong but are going to go as they’re too bulky to carry and hold gallons of water. Everywhere has limits anyway now and massive nets aren’t needed.
