TF_staffieQuick question can you when fishing a match feed a pole line with a pole pot whilst having a tip rod out??? This happens in the club i fish with quite a lot and some people say you cant and others say you can so whats your views on this? Personally i dont think it should be allowed as if you get a bite from a carp on the tip rod whilst your holding £3000 worth of pole at 17mtr potting bait out what are you going to do?? Ive seen a lot of rods taken in by carp because people were not paying attention, but thats my personal view.Any thoughts are welcome.

TF_orexinaIts against NFA match rules as its deemed using two rods.
You can circumnavigate the rules by making it a club rule…oneway or another -

TF_NeilI tried to get this practice banned with a club I am a member of but some of the old timers rejected the idea.
I’m still waiting for a rod to be taken in the water one day whilst someone is shipping out some feed. I’ll laugh till I pi*s myself when it happens.

TF_NathanWatsonUp to whoever makes the rules to decide! Banned in big matches but normally allowed in “friendly” opens.

This is exactly the same problem in this club, myself i would ban it but as you say the old timers tend to want to leave it as it is.

TF_NathanWatsonCourse it’s an advantage, can leave bomb in whilst cupping in and not possibly miss out on a bite!

TF_red_anglerIn NFA rules its banned, most waters i fish you can do it though so i do use this advantage in the winter when bites are at a premium.

TF_proper tidal boywhy have a set of club rules if you dont comply simple surely one rod only ,mind you theres allways some club members who will test the water, more so when they cant be seen???

TF_red_anglerIt all depends if you are fishing to NFA rules or another set of rules, the waters i fish (commercials) dont fish to NFA rules, if the club or fishery rules dont state 1 rod at a time then you can do it without it being classed as cheating.

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantSimple if you dont like it dont do it ! I dont like it and I dont do it i fish places where others do it i dont mind them doing it at all. A mate of mine showed me cupping out your bomb on your pole line then put your clip on then you can fish the area you have fed at say 14.5m accurateley if the wind gets up this is a really good idea.

TF_mart16what would happen if someone was fishing shallow with a pole on a bump bar and feeding the same line over the top with another pole set-up in some pole arms,or fishing down the edge and doing similar.do you reckon that would be fair?
extreme i know, but whose worse than an angler for trying to get an edge. -

so do think it would be ok to fish down the edge and continue to throw to your island swim with a feeder without an hooklength on it to keep your swim active?

TF_RenarcAll this talk about cupping it in, whats the differance, between using a cup or a catipult, your still feeding another swim surely !! and is that not the original issue !! or is it just the fact that a cup plus the pole is being seen to being used…!!! we all do this surely, feed another swim with a catty.. ~think ~think

Its got nothing to do with feeding with a catty or by hand for that matter, its to do with using a pole to pot bait out whilst having a tip rod out at the same time,as mart16 said would you fish down the margin whilst fishing the tip?????

As said before, using a catty or your hand is totaly different to shipping a pole out to 14+ mtrs to pot bait in,What happens if you hook a carp on your tip rod whilst holding your pole out at these lengths??? Or are you one of these anglers that doesnt really care about fish safety??

TF_mart1631. No competitor shall present their baited hooks into their swim by any means other than the pole or rod to which the line is attached.
32. All feed may be thrown in by hand, or by the use of one or two handed catapults, throwing sticks, swim feeders, bait droppers, bait cups and bait shuttles, but no other mechanical means of projecting feed is allowed. No bait shall be introduced with a pole or bait dropper attached to an extra pole or rod whilst continuing to fish.
these are taken from the nfa rules.why not just adhere to this, then everyone is on a level playing field.
obviously not everyone fishes to these rules, problem is that’s where the grey areas start.

TF_Nigel.You can only use one rod at a time in a fishing match, simple.

TF_scarfSo long as you’re only fishing, i.e. using a baited hook, on one line then I see no problem in feeding another line, whether by hand, catapult, throwing stick, bait dropper or with a pole cup. Those new little baitrunners should prevent rods flying in when you’re not concentrating – at least, that’s why I use them. But, whatever you think personally, it’s got to be down to club rules – unless venue rules prohibit it. Get a vote at the next club meeting and then get on with it.
Now, what are the rules on plumbing up a pole line while fishing a feeder? -

Now, what are the rules on plumbing up a pole line while fishing a feeder? If NFA rules state you cant use a pole to put bait out whilst fishing with another rod then your question speaks for itself,it is the same as fishing two rods and is not allowed but others will argue.:)
