RIP Adrian. angling has lost a genuinely helpful and honest angler who was always willing to help anyone improve their fishing, coupled with with a wicked sense of humour .
                    He will be sorely missed….

Really sorry to hear this. Adrian was one of the good guys and I second all of the above sentiments.

This really is sad news, i fished both with and against Goochy and he was a real gent who would help anyone out.
A wicked sense of humour and a true Watford supporter, me being a Spurs fan we had some banter.
He really loved his fishing for roach on canals and rivers
Fishing is much poorer for this loss it truely is.
                        RIP mate

Sad news indeed. I’d known Adrian since the early 80s when he was a member of Watford Piscators. He had been at Harefield tackle for a long time – he had a very dry sense of humour and was always ready with a well-delivered put-down when regulars walked into the shop. I remember about 30 years ago he did an Angling Times feature on the River Gade in Watford, catching a good bag of chub and a really big roach about 1lb 12ozs. Of course, by the time the feature was published the roach had ‘grown’ to 2lbs…the angling press, eh?! Adrian had the centre-spread from the AT framed and hung on the wall.
Adrian was also an excellent canal angler, using the pole in recent years, but in the 80s he was also a top-class waggler angler who favoured the old Shakespeare Mach 2 Boron rods – I believe he owned several of them. He also did well on the Thames – he was a true all-round matchman, not a one-water angler like so many in these days of commercial carp puddles.
RIP Adrian – and wherever you’ve gone, I hope you’ve drawn a good peg.
