Fish week 571 (season 1,213) Returns 134 (264) Rod average 4.2(4.5)
Spring has finally arrived and the buzzer fishing is beginning to take off. Bank fishing is still the better preference.Fish have spread far and wide with top spots on the bank being the Gorse, Stilton Point, Pines, Pitsford Creek and Stone Barn Point and Bay. Fish are still very deep and a long leader is necessary along with a very slow retrieve. Boobys fished on 6-10 foot leaders on fast sinking lines are working very well.
A team from Sky TV was filming angling ace Steve Ringer bank fishing at Pitsford Water last Wednesday. Steve, who is a professional coarse match angler, was challenged by Sky producers to catch some trout off the bank. They needed some film to accompany a studio appearance by Pitsford Water’s Senior Warden Nathan Clayton on Friday 1 April. For the record Steve caught four fish on a booby and four on buzzers with floating line.
Best Rainbow of the week weighed 7lb 8oz and was taken by Rick Barlow of Henley on Thames.
The small half at Pitsford Water opens on Friday 1 April which is also the start of the Brown Trout season. There will be some stocking in the Small Half over the coming weeks and there could also be some nice over wintered trout in this area so it’s well worth a try.
