Hi All i am part of the UKDMFC which is a disabled organization that run disabled matches for the disabled angler and have been since 2005.
We within the UKDMFC can see with rising fuel prices could affect disabled anglers from fishing as many events as they would like.
My question is would it and how would it affect anglers on total fishing with rising fuel cost.

For some I would say it will make no difference, they are totally addicted to fishing and will raid the kids piggy bank to get out fishing. Others may well have to adopt a friend, which for some will be a new experience, to share the costs of fuel.

It will no doubt have an impact on numbers fishing matches and may well see more locals staying local.

Until we as consumers become more militant than complacent the situation regarding rising costs is not going to change. The world as a whole needs a paradigm shift and if the Mayans were right there’s not long left…

I don’t use a car for work anymore, so I save money there that will probably be burnt up in petrol during the summer… lol

Just paid £1.409 per litre for Diesel……..

Saw the other day that it may be £2.00 per lire by end of year….. OUCH….

I’m going to Ireland and Holland this year (will cost a fortune in fuel), after this I will be fishing more local venues.

I am disabled and have a motorbility car which sits on the driveway for 6 days a week because we can’t afford to run it.
We used to be able to go to a match every fornight and TG was runner up in the ladies southern nations for 3 year running.
We are now restricted to the occassional visit to the Chichester Canal and if we save up a trip to a day ticket water once every 2 months.
I have taken the government to task as TG is my 24/7 carer and gets £55/week !!!
And they take it back out of our other benefits!!
So I have decided to attack the EA on rod licence fees.I have said that they are discriminating against carers as she has to pay full price for her licence and I cannot go fishing without her so she should get the same consession.
                          What are your thoughts 😡 😡 😡

I am a carer too and work with disabled children. It’ strange that when I go to rugby and cricket matches I get in free, but when I go fishing with a mate who fishes from a chair I pay for my day ticket, but then again I am fishing so I don’t mind, but i do think fisheries should think about this especially if the person has complex needs involved.. I’ve fished one fishery in Sussex that I did fish free as a carer. If you would like to pm me I do run matches at Venues with good access so if your interested please get in contact

If I could I probably would.
It would save my missus dragging two lots of gear to the bankside.
My wife doesn’t mind as she gets to go fishing.
I my original post I stated that carers who also fish are being charged for a full licence but as they have to set up and watch their charges they cannot enjoy fishing properly.
Most day ticket waters only charge carers the same as the disabled angler but the EA only have it under review!!
Not all disabled anglers are rich and can afford the costs and when challenged the EA cannot supply the numbers of disabled anglers who no longer fish because of this unjust charge.
Surley it is better to have more anglers fishing and reporting problems on waters than the waters being unfished and algal blooms and fish kills go unreported..
In the words of the EA the anglers are the eyes and ears of the department 🙁
