The Trek and the Specialized are hybrids, but there are different shades of grey for hybrid bikes. You’ve veered more towards the mountain bike end of the spectrum (for instance the Specialized has 45mm tires). This will mean that the bikes are quite robust (more robust than you will need on footpaths) but the tyres and gearing will slow you down on roads etc.
So it depends on how hard core you want to be about going off road. If you’re sticking to established paths I’d go for something a bit more towards the road end of the spectrum.
I have a Scott Sportster P3 (Cycled from Sheffield to St Ives on it last year) but also chuck it around on paths in the peak district, or a Felt QX75 would also be in your price range. Both have front suspension and discs. The difference in price is due to the quality of the brakes and gearing components (Shimano of course).
This is just like giving advice on buying a pole! It depends what you want it for. I’m too girly to do the serious mountain biking stuff so I compromised on strength and grip for lightness and responsiveness.
As for the Land Rover. Really? Do they have a bike history? Isn’t it just toys for boys?
