When you read these articles in Match fishing or Pole fishing etc do these anglers get paid by the magazine for doing the article or do they do it for free is this just by means of passing gratitude back to his or hers sponsors ?

i think dhp pay more for higher profile anglers.

i was paid enough to pay for the day and have a few beers afterwards.

i would imagine that everybody gets paid but im not 100%.

I thought it was the sponsors that paid DHP.It is after all advertising space.

It depends on who the angler is

Some do, some get expenses, some waiver their fee because they’re doing it for their sponsor/company. Some just like to get their faces in the mag….. 🙂

@Loda – it’s not advertising space. Regular features are not paid for, unless they’re advertorials (paid-for editorial), and then we’re obliged to make that clear through a tagline somewhere on the page (usually the top) to ensure that readers know this is not regular editorial. 🙂

Of course, sponsors of the anglers used in the magazine will generally advertise in the magazine, so any adverts we carry will be placed in an appropriate position within the mag, as close to the feature on their angler as possible.

Well I have done 2 articles for Improve Your Coarse Fishing for no fee. Was on the promise of at least £50 but no. Got my two day tickets wavered by the fishery owner though.

Certainly my experiance is you don’t get paid! I think in most cases it’s a case of giving sponsors their coverage in which case you may get a return on that (I’m not sponsored!)

My two turns have given me a free day ticket and a few quid back on my bait on one, the other was just my face in the mag (which I’m happy enough with by the way, something to show the kids/grand-kids one day!) You certainly will never get rich doing articles, unless you’re the one behind the camera ~clap LOL!

Thanks for your replies I always imagined shooting articles would have been much higher profile maybe a One thousand pound pay day for the angler im not sure why, just how I percieved things.

I’m sure there are exceptions but I have always made a point of trying to re-imburse anglers for their time and effort unless their features are part of a sponsorship/advertising deal that ‘insists’ on feature space. Even then thinking about it I have generally paid people.

But it’s tough out there. Circulations are falling, more people are getting their information online, advertising spend is harder to get, anglers are spending less…

It’s a ‘perfect storm’ for publishers.
