Put them in an airtight container with damp newspaper on top, bung them in the fridge. Open every other day and give them a swirl around to give them some air, they should be ok. Crush a handfull and give them a sniff you’ll soon know if they have gone bad.

I put them in the air tight tubs ( ones with a seal ), leave about 5mm gap of air.Have your fridge set very cold and they keep for 3 weeks. You can tell if they are ok as they will still turn as normal in fresh air.

I will keep them over a weekend at most, in water, giving them air once a day. IMO I don’t believe you can keep them fresh for longer. They are living creatures that need air. If they die they will go sour but may still look ok.

I fish caster more than anyone I know, mainly commercials but also a fair few mixed fisheries.Never had a problem, but, if I were fishing for less than 15lbs then I want as fresh as possible.
                        p.s.
The 77lbs won, 17lbs next to me!

To keep them fresh for a week you need to pump them in a vacum system like the mosella one (i use the 4pt and 8pt ones) then put them in a black bag and in the fridge.I do this when fishing festivals there as good on the last day as they were when i first pumped them.
                            🙂

Spot on Glebe1, have kept caster for two weeks easy doing this. I would wash the caster first and remove all the dead or floaters and then dry then before covering them with newspaer and storing them in an airtight tupperware tub.~clap

i put them in a bait box and fill the bait box to the brim with water put them in the freezer and when you defrost them change the water and they are as good as the day you brought them.
