TF_rayroyI have just had an operation on my back, and now recovering at home.
I used to do pole fishing BUT only at say 6m out due to my back, but also done feeder and waggler rod fishing.
I think when I return I will not be able to use my MatchBox and will have to get a chair – looking at a Korum type one ???Anyone else been in this situation ???
and could offer some advice.Thanks

TF_PaddyYep, had that done.
Also had a relapse after it was done and had a lumber spine injection which they do with a javelin!
It’s all about time and how much effort you are willing to put into the Physio work and getting your self fit again once it has been done.
I now fish pole at 14.5m again, plus all other disciplines which i put down to good physio, plenty of walking, plenty of rest and doing the core strengthening exercises that you are shown after you have had the operation.
The big thing is the time aspect. It is now nearly 18 months since i had the surgery and i still need to do the excercises as it feels tight and tender, but it is getting better all the time.
Hope it goes well for you. -

TF_caudal finParticipantMy brother had this done some years ago, went back to playing rugby and body building after recovery. Surgeon told him only way to find out if you can is by trying just make sure you do the physio properly first.
all the best

Tubbs TubsonRay,
I’ve had a lumbar decompression (same as what you’ve just had) and 2 years later had a laminectomy to L4-L5…
Don’t see why you can’t return to normal long-pole work from a box like I did.,.?
Within a fortnight, I was walking great…within 6 weeks I was back fishing…do the physio (and do it for the rest of your life) and you’ll be fine.

TF_peckerHi rayroy
i had a lower lumber fusion disc removed and caged and also had the lower pars intersection removed on the lower lumber vertibra 13wks ago .im getting some discomfort from the one above but this some times happens and should settle down.ive been told by my surgeon to really start to work hard on physio and pilates which iam doing.this is starting to improve greatly so hopefully i will soon be on the bank shortly.put the hard work in and it should be ok and back to normal, ps i would not get a low down chair just take your time do the physio etc and start fishing as before but dont rush it

djhaze2004Participanti have just been diagnosed with a prolapsed disc causing my siatica just awaiting a hospital appointent to see how i go on , i find that having your seatbox set correct is the most impotant thing, but if im honest long pole fishing is is prob one of the worst things for a bad back- still do it though !
