AnonymousI’d like to know the advantages over these two.
I’m assuming the double elastic will be the lighter and leave my pole feeling more balanced?
Also, which would be better for a mixed fishery where you would be catching silverfish from 1-8oz and latch onto a bonus Skimmer/Bream/Carp from 1lb-6lb?
Also, what double elastics would be light enough for silverfish but have reserve power for a bonus Carp?
Any advice/facts would be appreciated!

TF_sensaskidni1964Hello there mucker. Firstly many congratulations on selection for the Irish Team !
I have never used the double elastic system but perhaps a middy shock core or preston hollow would be 2 of the most stretchable elastics i have used.
Through a Top 2 and used with a pulla bung you have in my opinion more control over a bonus fish.
I use this at Kennys at Omagh where you can be plagued by small Tench and Roach and also the chance of the bigger Tench and Carp making an apearance.
PS Pity i cant win a match there lololol
Middy Micro shock core or 6-10 very forgiving.

AnonymousCheers SensasKidNI, I used to use the Vespe Hollows at Kenny’s and found it hard to control some of the Carp when they initially bolted but the weeds were more of a problem than my elastics!
Going to experiment with a few doubles, maybe go down to Toomans and try them out on the 5-10lb’ers. There’s alot of small carp in there now so hopefully i’ll find a medium that suits the 4-8oz fish as well as the odd lump.
Pullabungs may be an idea.

TF_the big fellahi,
Double 6 or double 8 is pretty good through 2 sections!
I have tried a few differing elastics but original preston slip seems smoothest by along way and doesnt stick in pole as much I felt.
The “Preston original slip” double 8 (dark grey) maybe a tad strong for the real small stuff in my opinion.
The “Preston original slip” double 6 (light yellow) is bang on for silvers and skimmers and in my opinion is fine for the odd carp upto 4-5lbs but when they start going 6 to 8lbs its undergunned.
Fished with a puller bung is fine and keeps a bit more control.
Hope it helps

AnonymousA Pulla Bung will be out of the question if I’m fishing a Top 4 in 12-15ft of water.
Might just have to experiment with Double 5’s, 6’s & 8’s. I like the Sensas Magic pure latex so I might start there.

TF_Man of KentHave tried double 2, 4, 5, 6 and 8 for about 18 months. I’m thinking of moving away from doubled laccy as I can’t get the balance right. It’s either too loose for the lumps, so I have no control, or too tight for smaller fish, in which case I bump too many.
Think I’ll go back to hollows when I need to renew them.

TF_craigoDont think your really gonna find an ideal solution at this time of year – laccys light enough for skimmers are gonna be too light for the bigger carp you mention and going heavier is gonna be too heavy for skimmers.
Doubled 6 would be a good choice as would green drennan bungee if you need to go a bit lighter – side puller kits rather than a pull bung means you can fish a top5 if you want and still use the puller
In deep water the doubled six might be ideal come to think of it – espec one thats been used a bit cos once used a few times doubled laccy softens up a lot

TF_nick_the_2ndI would have thought if you are targeting fish in the 1-8oz range your trace line will be quite light and hooks small, so elastic has to match the line and hook size which is a point often overlooked.
A double 5 will certainly deal with the bream without any problems, and also if it is just the odd bonus carp then why not just play them out on the doubled 5 too. You will find with a light elastic they will normally come in without too much trouble.
