This subject has been brought up here several times and it seems that there are many different takes on what is going on. Carp do this too on lots of baits but especially pellets and hemp.
Usually they are not on the deck but sit somewhere in the water column. Fishing paste can work as they seem to home in on it as it desolves and gives off a cloud they seem to like. Advice to me from top anglers has been to not feed what you cannot put on the hook, so micros and hemp are out. Also if you feed little and often you can catch them shallow but you must put the same bait on the hook as you are feeding. Otherwise its easy for the fish to learn which bait not to take.Feeding too much at once will usually make the problem much worse so ease off.

I have been told, but never tried it for myself to put a full pot of corn in and fish that. Apparently it stops fizzing instantly. Try it and tell me if it works please!!

this question comes up loads of times at this time of year,and i for one would love to know the real answer.not too far me is brooksby collage so in the local you get to talk a long about fisheries and fish management,i once asked this question and this is what one man said
this often happens at the warmest times of year and one reason for is a build up of silt on the bottom and often over the winter months this silt settles in dips and cracks on the lake beds often this silt is a bye produce from fish that eat pellets and other food as no pellets are 100% digestible and have a percentage of waste in them and with the quantity of fish in commercials its often rank and smelly and if you are fishing over a bed of silt you catch well for a start but when a large amount of fish start disturbing the silt fish specially skimmers will shut up shop or even move off the area where the displacement has taken place.i can see these points quite quite clearly when i’ve fished some venues ie barston glebe and packington little geareys is a devil for this
so make your own minds up

i now try and find either the edge of theses beds or slopes [its not easy but has defo helped on some venues

Absoloutly right Joff.
When they are fizzing, its because they are shifting the silt with there pectoral fins, and as the silt can be loose and soft, and full of decaying material, that’s what causes the bubbles, and you cant catch the fish!
A few pegs are like this here at Barston, and the best way is to plumb up closer and close until it starts swallowing up, and then re-feed there and fish there, it may be on your top 5, 3 or even 3, but that’s where to fish!

if you think about its right,the tow must carry this silt from one place to another as the wind changes but it won’t settle were the tow can hit it and these areas are the slopes so parts of your peg should have less in certain areas and your results should be better its not as easy as you think finding these sometimes very small areas and the biggest part of my fishing on some of these venues is plumbing up ~sick ~sick ~sick
