After 12 or so trips to the Glebe Uncle Roy has convinced me that when I next visit, it is about time I set up a feeder rod !

I intend to fish a GB feeder but don’t know what to fish on the hook ? Some do use dead maggotts but I am not convinced that you get “Proper” bites when fishing maggotts on the hook as opposed to a bait on a hair.

What have others been catching on ?

Pikey, I’ve been a regular there for over 10 years I can tell you I’ve caught more fish on maggot than any other hookbait 3 dead reds on a 14,single red on an 18 in winter, and I’d set up a feeder on nearly every peg on the complex!!!

When fishing maggots on the feeder (with them on the hook) do you get pull rounds like when hair rigging or do you have to strike at bites ?

Yep straight off the rest mate or a drop back,im happer if i can catch on maggot, sometimes when hair rigging you tend to loose alot of fish i reckon they are hooked on the outside of the mouth when it happens

Only been going two years and have used the feeder on every lake I have drawn as well as the pole. Not yet failed to catch on it (although the pole has always been better for me anyway!!!)

I tried the dead reds for the first time over the last two days and to be honest other than the little plucks from I assume perch and skimmers there was no difference, the carp are still good pull rounds.

Next time though I am going to switch better the maggot on the hook and either corn or mini boilie on the hair as I’m not convinced the maggot and no hair was any better.

I can’t believe you have never set a tip up some of them pegs scream fish on the far side!!!

I don’t fish the feeder often so am not that confident trying to chuck tight to the far bank accurately and consistently.

I have always caught straightaway on the pole line so have never felt that I was missing out until this time when the wind on day 1 made fihing the pole difficult and on Day 2 when I had too many blank periods when I could have chucked a feeder.

~clap ~clap ~clap just draw your usual end peg david and leave the feeders to the dull leadheads.

Get out on the common and practice casting Dave, I thought I could cast ok but thos lads with there 30/40 grm feeders get it tighter than your wallet.
