TF_BacseyParticipantJust wonderd what people think,i always thought dibbers were best but anglers have switched to bristle and body floats and wonderd what people are finding the best for the job? thanks Bacsey.

TF_craiggoldstrawi think it depends what your fishing for and what death you want to fish , when fishing for f1s shallow most of the time you can chatch them around 12″ so id usally use a pea, but when fishing for proper carp i think you chatch more at the 24″ area when i bristal float is better used , or in windy counditions you probley be better using a bristal float, that going on fishing pellet shallow.

TF_Leaky Lloydi like preston durafloat 10’s nice and dumpy, spring ring side eyes, and a hollo bristle which can be pierced at the top and come out of the side of the bristle, pass the line through it and its more or less 100 % tangle proof !!!
maver do a very similar pattern aswell, although i cant remember the model !! -

TF_BacseyParticipantIm trying to find a float for fishing boldings on the fisho and apparently its mostly shallow on the pole and wonderd what would be most suitable.

TF_drawbag1967What about shallow with worm used some Malmans yesterday which are brilliant floats but felt the bristle was too short any thoughts.

TF_budnuddParticipantWhich malman did you use?

TF_budnuddParticipantCan’t knock your choice tbh mate! Maybe a carpa chimp would be more suitable? I use malmans for 99% of my fishing and find them ideal.

TF_drawbag1967Wire stems no good for baggin shallow mate if I was fishing 3ft or deeper then yes.

30/05/2011 at 6:53 pm #142377
TF_budnuddParticipantI know mate but I suggested it more for the bristle than owt else. The float I would personally use is a ‘Cedar wood’ but the bristle isn’t more visable than a ‘Snake’ I don’t think!

jamie matthewsTry the kc carpa cube. short, thick wire stem and a short stumpy tip. kinda like the carpa shelf but better. glue the eyes if u try them. i,ve had loads in my box for years and they have never let me down. first rigs out the box when im shallow fishing.

TF_drawbag1967Tips too short
-
30/05/2011 at 8:10 pm #142403
jamie matthewsthe thickness of the cubes tip makes up for the length of it. i,ve never had a problem with these floats when fishing depths of between 1ft & 3ft. they are very buyont and stable. brilliant for pellets and meat.

TF_drawbag1967You can’t distinguish liners from real bites with a short tip one of the reasons for using a long bristle when using Paste.
-
30/05/2011 at 8:23 pm #142410
jamie matthewscompletely different style of fishing to paste fishing. bites are different!. every1 has their own favorite float pattern. the cube is mine and i’ve used them to great effect and caught numerous 100-200lb bags with them. terry malloy uses/used the kc carpa shelf. which is similar to the cube but has a shorter/slimmer tip and he thinks they are brilliant! i have tried them but cant quite get on with them. both are good shallow floats.

TF_One fishThere are a number of points which will decide which float is best for shallow;
1. Baits to be used, meat and pellets tend to be heavier than maggot or caster/bits or worm.
2.Are you fishing for carp or f1s, the latter are far more tricky and the bigger ones tend to feed very shallow.Finer floats are always better for f1s.
3.Size of fish and weights expected, then float durability will come into play.
Generally my shallow floats are no bigger than 4×10.If I need heavier then shallow is not the best option.I will always opt for a bristle, how fine depends on the bait plus size of fish.
Many floatmakers make a pattern which will suit, in my opinion avoid wire stems, pick hi vis bristles and look for small bodied patterns.

Try a bit of hollo or hydro on the bristle to extend it ~shh

TF_HatManFor F1s and ide shallow at 10″ or more with maggs I use 4×10 chiantis, or Malman Cedar woods (dotted down) but prefer a shorter float like a Preston pink or black for shallower. Can’t get on with fishing the little blobs, though they ought to be right for the job.
Looking forward to a delivery of Malman Slapper ABs soon for bigger baits.

TF_baitchefParticipantThe drennan caster is one of the all time patterns for shallow floats as are the drennan dibbers. The only problem with the casters is they were not designed for bagging tons of carp, but they can be modified to give them extra strength.
The thing is though, there is no real ‘best’ pattern. Its all down to whats right on the day. Blobs, big/small dibbers, bristled, they all have a time and place. -

TF_NathanWatsonPersonally, for pellet fishing I think 4 x 10 is too small, I use 4 x 12, 0.2 or 0.3G. I like a M.W. Pea for F1s at 12 inch or less, Malman Slap for around 18 inches for F1s or proper carp, Preston PB11, Ackoo Power Trap or Malman Snake 4 for 2 to 6ft.

Tubbs TubsonSconezone Wellardz or Jubleez dependant on how deep you want to fish…for slapping try the in-line Slapz.
Andy May, Dave Swain and Matt Hall can’t all be wrong can they?
Seeemples. (but I would say that)~clap

TF_BacseyParticipantI orderd some scone zone floats this morning (wellardz)and they have given me a refund? i guess they are out of stock?.The wellardz looked good so now wondering what to get,i will be fishing maggot shallow at boldings pools in the fisho any idea what floats are best at the venue for this tactic.
