I have recently acquired one from the estate of the late Adrian Gooch.
It has a very neat whipping with green thread and varnished about halfway down the flicktip . Was this an original feature ( a splice) necessary to it’s manufacture, or did Adrian bust it?

IMO the late owner did not break the flick tip, whipping the flick tip in this manner was a regular ploy, he would have attached the line on the flick tip with two pieces of rubber or silicon, after threading the line through both pieces, the first piece would be pushed about six inches down the flick tip ,the line would then be wound around the flick tip a few times and then the second piece of threaded silicon/rubber would be attached to the very end of the flick tip with about half an inch over hanging , this held everything securely and stopped tangles , a great way of doing things and like most good ideas ,very simple and effective.

simon the splice is an origenal feature, I have one in the shed virtually unused as I superceeded it with a connoiseur whip which was tele top 3 instead of 4 and went to 8mtres, also managed to secure some hollow tips that fit both models and can use it with elastic as well as the flick tip.

Its original, I have one as well and it has green whipping covering the join or splice

Thanks for the replies, I thought it looked too good to be a repair.
Brilliant bit of kit , I used it over the weekend on both the river Colne and a stillwater match on sunday. The line is attached to the tip with a small crook and a silicone tube , whether that is original or not I don’t know?
