TF_joffmiesteri’ve just spotted this on another website its shocking news
Shocking!!!!!
Yesterday at 12:45pm A very sad article in the Mirror, and a terrible indictment of the world we live in today.Hard to credit that it could happen during a fishing match………………
Angler held under water and killed by attacker
by John Kelly, Sunday MirrorA MAN taking part in a fishing competition was drowned by a stranger who shoved him into a canal and held him under.
Harry Morris, 57, died yesterday morning after the man toppled him from the bank before jumping in and holding him under.
Other competitors did not realise until it was too late that the victim was in the water.
They gave chase and the killer fled into nearby woods. A 40-year-old man was later arrested.
Last night Mr Morris’s brother Alan, 59, said: ‘I cannot believe a man could get up in the morning to go out fishing and get killed like this. He was just sat on the bank and this stranger comes up and does this to him.
‘I helped Harry get set up and had just left when someone called me back saying something terrible had happened.
‘By the time I came round the corner Harry was dead on the bank. The bloke was apparently sat behind him on a bench and suddenly he has gone up to my brother and knocked him into the canal.
‘He jumped in after Harry and was holding him under the water. By the time anyone realised what was happening, Harry was dead.
‘The other fishermen leapt up and went after this bloke. Harry was very popular and well known in fishing circles.
‘The man seems to have been a complete stranger. I just cannot understand it.’
The attack, on the St Helens Canal in Sankey Valley Park, Warrington, came just before 11am yesterday as the Dallam Community Angling Club held its regular Saturday competition.
Harry’s other brother, club chairman Louis, 54, said: ‘It was just a local angling match held every Saturday and Tuesday. Harry was a keen angler and he was also the type of guy who would help anyone.’
Police said a 40-year-old man from Widnes had been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Mr Morris is believed to have been a divorced father of five. Friends say he had a heart condition and used an oxygen cylinder at night.

TF_Man of KentThat’s absolutely despicable. No doubt the murderer will have some lame excuse that prevents prosecution. I hope not.

TF_SwimfeederHow the hell can a man sit on his box on a canal in broad daylight and not notice two men in the water struggling at the next peg?
We live in a society where some look the other way because they do not want to get involved, how can they look at themselves in the mirror?

TF_MICK THE BOOKIEWhat a terrible thing to happen.
Bob(Swimfeeder)…I know what you are talking about mate…But i think we should find out just what happened before making remarks about other anglers who were near Harry at the time of this tragic incident.
As mentioned…there are some complete nutters out there who would do anything for their next fix,and we all hear of the trouble on our streets every day. However for this to happen to a fisherman sitting by the waters edge is a complete body blow to the anglers family, friends and all of us who love our sport.
MY CONDOLENCIES TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS. -

A friend of mine who knew the guy and most of them fishing the match. Told me today that every other peg was in, its reed lined on tow path and that most had brollies up. No one looked the other way, they are all good mates.
It was just too late.Rest in peace HARRY.

TF_SwimfeederSorry pal, but I am not convinced, I have had first hand experience of people ” not seeing anything” in broad daylight and a matter of yards away, to be frozen with fear and unable to help is perhaps, understandable, to lie, and say they saw nothing so they do not look bad is unforgivable.

TF_MICK THE BOOKIEBob…..I respect you and your views on most things. But i think you really ought to take a tug on your thoughts on this tragic incident. The other anglers who were there on the day are feeling bad enough as it is.

TF_Tim_DI’m with Bob on this one, so let me get this straight, one person fell in the canal, then the other person jumped in… the noise and comotion of all that would have been huge to say the least… all seems very odd.
