        Hi all,
I’m new to the fishing and have taken up coarse fishing as a hobby. My problem is every time i cast out my line continues to feed off the spool on the reel, so i am continuosly getting the line knotted and not able to do much fishing. Is the problem with my casting or is it the settings on the reel? any help from you experts would be very appreciated.
        Dave

sounds to me that A your using to strong a line and its so strong its curling off your spool.B you may have loaded to much line on the spool.C what make of line is it.D have you tried feathering the line of the spool near the end of the cast.hope this helps. 😉

Yes I agree it sounds like the spool of the reel is overloaded… and also it may well be too thick/heavy. What kind of fishing are you doing?

i think maybe you have too much line loaded onto the spool ,it needs too be filled to just under the rim of the spool about 3mm-5mm gap ,and loaded with a little tension to avoid springyness .

What are you casting? A float? A leger weight? A feeder?

An over filled spool will cause most of the problem as will casting a heavy weight and allowing the line to continue to peel off the reel after the float or feeder has landed.

A little more info please and a more accurate assessment might be forthcoming 😉

Are you casting with a fixed spool or centrepin reel? I trust you are not trying to cast with the bale arm closed and using a slack clutch as this would cause over-runs.

As feeder has suggested you may have completely the wrong line loaded on your reel.

Thanks for the reply guys and sorry i was not more specific with details.
I’m using 15lb monofil which i had given to me with a fixed spool reel. Problem occurs when legering with a 2 or so oz leger weight. General census amongst you is that i’ve overfilled the spool, i shall work along them lines with a lighter line. Bale arm is open Cutnut but maybe clutch possibly to slack, i was trying it under all tensions but did’nt want to have it too tight in case i lost the line with weight etc attached when casting. Thanks again fellas 🙂

Get some lighter breaking strain line 3lb and a little float with an 18 hook practise catching roach and silver fish with maggots you will get loads of bites and will gain a bit of water craft.

🙂 Thanks again guys, i’ll heed your advice Feeder and get a lighter line and i will admit it is a bit heavy for coarse fishing thinking about it !! 😉
