MOLANDS It has been a much improved week with good nets of F1’s, skimmers, tench and carp being caught. The top tactics are a small pellet/method feeder fished across to the island shelf or pole fished paste down the near margin. Fishery regular Fred Evans of Coleshill caught an estimated 80lb from peg 17 which included eight carp to 8lb and around 40 F1’s to 1½lb. These came to a method feeder with pellet on the hook. Best pegs are 2, 8 – 14, 26 – 29, 43 – 46 and 52 – 60.
GEARYS Match weights to over 80lb being caught and pleasure anglers exceeding this. Ray Chandler of Balsall Common caught 24 carp to 9lb from peg 19 and these all came to 8mm pellets fished on the straight lead. The skimmers have showed better this week with lots of fish from 1 – 3lb coming to either chopped worm or caster or pellet fished close in at 4 – 6 metres. The best pegs are 7 – 15, 19, 20, 28, 30 – 32, 36 and 37.
LITTLE GEARYS In good form this week with the bigger F1’s in the 2 – 4lb range really starting to have a go. Skimmers, carp and tench are also going well with lots of fish being caught all around the pool. Shallow tactics with pellet or caster is best for the F1’s but long pole with pellet on the deck is also going well. Best pegs are 1, 4, 7 – 13, 17, 21 and 24 – 26.
GRATUITIES The bigger carp are coming to surface fished baits with fish to 10lb falling to dog biscuit or bread. Tench, carp to 4lb and lots of crucians being caught on the pole with pellet or caster the top baits. Best pegs are 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 11 and 15.
ANNIVERSARIES Pole fished paste or pellet has accounted for the better catches with carp to 17lb caught during matches this week along with tench to 4lb, skimmers and crucians. The best areas have been the top bay from pegs 1 – 6 or the lawn area on pegs 16, 17, 22 and 23.
-4-
PACKINGTON SOMERS FISHERYWILLOW Good mixed nets of crucians, skimmers and tench coming to pellet fished at 8 – 10 metres. The carp are showing better around the margins with paste or meat accounting for fish to 10lb. Best pegs are 1, 4 – 6 and 9 – 12.
CRESCENT/ALDER/FIRST BAY AND REEDY BAY These small pools have been in cracking form over the past week with lots of small carp and tench being caught. Float fished corn or pellet is the best tactic on all of these pools.
