I’ve fished quite a few matches reciently where there has been a substantial tow on the lakes. The lakes are averaging between 7ft and 15ft deep around 13m and your fishing for small roach.

What round bodied (or other style) float does anyone favour in these depths of water holding back hard against the tow?

Colmic Jolly’s would be my first choice, just wondering what everyone else used?

I have thought about that before, but have never taken it seriously. There has been some serious amount of tow on some of the lakes with the windy weather we’ve had reciently. One match it took about 20-30 seconds for the float to move nearly 2ft through my swim, that was in 8ft of water. A 1-2g flat float could do the trick.

Have you seen the Maver “Drift” floats? They are 16 inches long and come in 2 pieces for storage. They have a teardrop shaped body and carbon stem, the 6″ bristle has 2 tiny rings on which line is passed through, the top ring being about 2″ from the top. They are on the maver website under pole floats (click on the blank photo and they appear)
I tried a 1gr example on a ressie wjth horrendous tow and it helped to a degree, but I would probably been better off with a 2 to 2.5gr .
