deffo mate i have a all terrain not top of the tree wise in diawa s elite poles but not a bag of shite neither so i think i can give imho it makes it hell of a difference 😉 nice to see another wakefield lad posting 🙂

yep,same as chubby,ive got the all terrain and the short 4 stiffens the pole and makes cupping bait out much easier.

use mine all the time(unless on a top 4 venue) find it better (or safer) whilst landing carp its a lot better pulling on that than a match 4 imo 😉

transforms the pole at longer lengths the only thing is obviously the shorter length.
however having measured my tournament pro with a match kit with number one removed and the short number four in and the 17.5metre ext the pole is just a few inches over 16 metres so that’ll do.

The balance is just so much better!

The match top fours are mint as they only ever get used if I still can’t reach a feature with 2 exts up the back so 19m+ (in reality its nearer 17.5m with #1 removed and short four if you measure it).

Yep, miles better with short 4’s, like most poles are.
The short 4’s on Daiwas are a lot shorter than other makes, which means that the overall pole is a lot shorter.
I’ve been a die hard Daiwa man for years and would swear by them for performance and reliability, but how can they get away with the actual length being so much shorter than other flagship poles.

My GMAX 1000, is stiffer, and given its about a metre longer, then its bound to be a bit heavier (marginally).

Only had it a few weeks, but happy with how it fishes and pellet shallow at 16m (14.5m with an Airity!!) yesterday was a pleasure, shame I didnt really catch on it!! haha

Short 4s stiffen the pole up alot, trouble is like Dirkdiggler says you lose length but i am led to believe that using a short 4 with your number 1 removed you can stick a 17.5m section on and it will only be 16m I asked at Whiteacres on the Baittech.

That’s exactly what I do after breaking several long 4s! So please, no-one accuse me of cheating when I do this in the Fisho final! 😀 :p .

I actually find it makes the pole feel heavier and perhaps not quite as good for slapping than using the long 4 or maybe I’m just getting weaker in my old age!? 🙁

You could all do yourselves a favour and buy a short 4 from the preston GIS range and some preston GIS kits.

The kits themsleves dont actually fit onto the daiwa No 4 but the GIS no4 fits the daiwa like a glove – the daiwa with top 4’s from gis is miles better than with a daiwa top 4.

Doesn’t unbalance em like lots of kits do which aren’t designed for the actual pole.

The GIS short 4 is longer than the daiwa short 4 so pole doesn’t look quite as odd either with too fast a taper

And how long are the Preston top kits andd what length does that make the pole in total?

nathan – the preston kits (match kits with No 1 removed) are roughly same as the daiwa kits – the only difference is the short 4 is longer than the daiwa short 4 so you get best of both worlds.

IMO the daiwa kits have always been the thing that lets the daiwa’s down cos theyre so heavy but i suppose they are strong, although I know the new top end kits are better.

if you have a daiwa, Im sure you will know somebody with a preston gis pole – borrow a short 4 and match kit with No 1 removed and have a waggle with em on your daiwa

I know you might be sceptical cos alternative kits usual spoil the balance and feel of a pole, but try it – you might be pleasantly surprised!

Only trouble is mate, with a 1.5M extension it would take me over the 16M linit, without too short! :confused:
