TF_tongeyCould somebody please tell me why the fisho final is this year only on Sky Sports HD2? Its usually on Sky Sports, I dont have HD, I’m a little annoyed at this and considering cancelling my Sky package full stop!

TF_caster robParticipantI get quite a few HD channels on Freesat and they don’t look any better than the SD ones to me.

TF_budnuddParticipantJust watch Sky Sports News mate, whenever they give the score from a live game, rugby league for example they always say “you can watch this live over on hd2”. Therefore they are subtly hinting that it is only live on said Chanel so you had better stump up! This tactic obviously works as this thread goes to prove. 😉

TF_FBluesObviously Sky promote the HD channels but EXACTLY the same coverage goes out on the standard (SD) channels. Once everyone has HD, it’s 3D’s turn, never fear! Just think, if it was all left to the Beeb we’d still have 625 lines and a dial to turn and pay tax to watch it!
Tight Lines is still SD and quite a few Sky Sports shows are, until we move into the brand new building later this year. Everything will be produced in HD – and tapeless – by then but obviously still transmitted in SD also.
caster rob: not every show will be made in HD and they will look the same as on the SD channel. Once you see a show, and ball sports are the obvious, or animated films, or wildlife programmes in HD you will see the difference, it is almost like colour is to black and white in my opinion. You can see the stitching on a cricket ball as it goes from the bowler’s hand at 90mph!

TF_caster robParticipantKeith:
The European Cup Final had an HD (press blue? button) option, which I tried, and it really didn’t look much different to me.
My mate a couple of doors away had the HD package and was showing me some channels on his LCD TV.
I came back and viewed the same channels in SD on my LED 100hz panel and there wasn’t much difference. If anything I thought the colours on my TV were more vivid and the picture was sharper.
So I’m a bit non-plussed by it all really.As for 3D.
No thanks.

TF_FBluesHaha, I’m not sold on 3-D either. A lot probably depends on how you get TV. Mine comes down a wire and I promise that the difference is noticeable, more on sport than anything, especially on channels that are historically poor vision, such as Eurosport.
You would notice the difference if you switched from one to another if you are getting true HD. Colour saturation depends on equipment: picture clarity depends on transmission and reception. HD is transmitted at a far higher standard but how it’s received can’t be helped.
We have two different monitors in the Tight Lines studio and they are as different as apples and grapefruit in image quality. One’s Panasonic, the other Sony.

TF_caster robParticipantIndividual user experience then I suppose.
I get some channels from Virgin (cable) and some Freesat (dish) but I can’t find any consistency between them (the sources) by channel at all.
I mainly use TV for BR/DVDs and streaming from the PC so it’s not a big issue for me. I’m not inclined to pay extra for it on what I’ve seen so far though.

TF_GLEBE1Im impressed with my HD set-up, the only downside is it highlights how many women have chronic facial hair!!!!

TF_Serious SamHD is well worth the extra tenner. Draw the line at 3D though until you can watch it without specs on.

TF_sean178lets not start going on about 3D, i only just convinced my mrs that HD was the way forward !!!
anyone not convinced should try watching something like avitar on dvd then on blu-ray … thats how i won “the boss” over. the detail on the blue-ray is far better, but i guess that is just my opinion.
i happily pay my extra tenner every month. -

TF_FBluesTight Lines will be HD when we move into the new building, the big job near the western end of the elevated section of M4 in Brentford. We were due in Fisho weekend but there is a delay. I reckon before the New Year. We have full HD make-up now, usually applied by airbrush but I can’t make up my mind whether to have my arm hair dyed or waxed…

TF_FBluesOne famous ex-Sky Sports football presenter had to have his hands and arms waxed, as well as a shave between games if there were two matches on one programme. His hair was toned down too, from black.
