Report on Redditch Federation/AVVC Pole Only Open Arrow Valley Lake 15.9.12

In response to popular demand, the latest Redditch Federation open match on Arrow Valley Lake was a pole only affair in which no other fishing methods were allowed.

The result was a cracking match with some close weights and an average catch of over 30lb per man for the 19 anglers taking part.
The lake’s massive population of small skimmer bream up to about the 12oz mark continued to feed with gay abandon to provide brilliant sport all along the Shakepeare bank, the only area of the lake used in the match.

Worcester angler Alf Hand improved on his third place last time out to take the honours this time with a level 51lb bag of skimmers taken on soft pellet hookbait from peg 15.

Venue regular Mo Williams continued his strong form on the venue in runner-up spot taking skimmers all through the match on the next peg to the winner for a 46lb 13oz catch using red maggot on the hook.
Third place went to another Worcester angler, Colin Harvey who was just a couple of fish behind with 45lb 8oz.

Snapping at his heels was the best Redditch angler on the day, Keith Woodhead, just an ounce and a half adrift with Mark Dowery in fifth place with 44lb 10oz and local lad Martin Tremlett sixth with a 42lb 1oz return.

Section prizes went to Dowery and John Maloney with 39lb 2oz
