TF_Smedthe mwg`s were very good for the PW but looked “not right” when you tied em with a knotless knot….
the new hooks designed for the PW have a out turned eye now and are spot on!
tried a qm1 on the PW and i seemed to miss more bites, but only tried the once….
stick to using em with the thod and get yourself some of the new ones! -

TF_wildingukhave dabbled with the qm1’s for method and pellet feeder fishing, has anyone else found they rip the fishes mouths up rather badly? I’ve found this on 75% of the fish I’ve caught on them.

TF_carpmagicParticipantBecause of the way QM1’s go into the fishes mouth they actually cause less damage than any other hook as they dont move once in due to their shape. I would suggest that any damage was already done before you hooked said fish.

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantIve tried Qm1 hooks and im not blowing smoke up Steves arse because im not like that, But they dont cause damage, they dont budge thats why I dont really get on with them, there nailed solid I find em difficult to get out a good way of discourging Qm1 hooks is an old fashioned disgourger the metal type with a little hook loop on the end trouble isI only have 1 and you can no longer buy them maybe something needs developing to extract the hooks Steve 😉

TF_baggingmachineParticipantDon’t see the need to use anything apart from PR36!…..never let me down, the eye lets you tie knotless knot easily and they sit perfectly for the lasso/hair rigged band and are well strong enough.
great hook….and not overpriced.

i thought exactly the same BM and have used the pr36`s for around 2 years with no issues….
until i had one straighten whilst tryting to stop a double from reaching a snag, cost me the match! some1 suggested the gurus, ive tried em and just cant fault em esp now they do one specifically for the PW! -

TF_tractorboyThe shape of the QM1 (inturned point) really leans them towards either lead or feeder fishing. They are awesome for that and as Steve says once they are in the mouth they don’t move and stay put.
The new Guru pellet waggler hooks are the best around for pellet waggler and pole shallow fishing. They also have an out turned eye, but have a slighly wider gape than the PR36 and also have an off set point which aids hooking.
They are selling really well and feedback is all good. Check them out and also have a look at the Xstong spades as these hooks are mega.

TF_CockneyQuestion for Andy (tractorboy) regarding the new Guru hooks for the Pellet Waggler. Andy, are you using these for certain situations UITW on the pole ie. big Carp or will these cover all situations shallow on the pole?
On the subject of hooks are Guru planning to release a lighter version spade end hook for the colder months & lighter lines, etc?

TF_tractorboyHi mate,
Yes I think the new PW hooks are great for pretty much all uitw situations really, be it waggler or pole.
We do have another pattern in the pipeline which is a finer gauge wire and similar to a B911 but not sure when these are set to be released, could be next year now.
We also have an 0.11 size of N-Gauge coming soon which is ideal for the cooler months.
On another note the long awaited method moulds are hitting the shops this week, so keep an eye out for those as they are awesome. They have been a long time coming but worth the wait.

TF_CoxyI have used the qm1’s on the bagging waggler with great effect but remember this is a rig where the fish hook themselves as they turn away much like the method.
I would not use them and do not really see the benefit of them on the pellet wag especially when you are striking into bites much prefering to use MWG’s. I have used the Guru pellet waggler hooks and so far results have been positive.
I know this is my opinion and each to their own but i rate Guru hooks.

TF_baggingmachineParticipantWhy are they so damn expensive though?…Preston aren’t exactly known for good pricing but the Guru hooks are way more expensive.
-
24/08/2011 at 1:15 pm #147523
TF_tractorboyMWG, Pellet wag and Xstrong Carp spade are £1.30 per pack against £1.20 for Preston. Not that much dearer.
QM1 hooks are £3.00 but come from the same factory as the Korda hooks and are PTFE coated. They also keep their points well and can be reused. I still think they are good value myself.

Had 2 pr36s bend a little sunday, one was hooked proper(lump)and one was a foul hooker at the Glebe Sunday on my 5m line so ive just been and purchased some pr38s for a bit more strength…
Also just purchased some Tubertini 175s very very strong hooks 🙂

TF_tractorboyI really am not sure why you would use the QM1 for pellet waggler fishing, esspecially now the pellet waggler hooks are out. They have been designed for up in the water fishing and have features that the PR36 hooks don’t have like a wider gape which is ideal for bigger baits like 8mm pellets, and the off set point is a good hooking feature taken from the QM1, plus the 30 degree out turned eye to keep the hook in line with the hair.
Each to their own of course and I am sponsored by Guru so some will say I am bound to say things like this, but I stand by what I say when I say they are spot on for shallow fishing.
They are 10p dearer than the Preston hooks and are set to be many anglers favourite hook, IMO.

Ah apologies!……I didn’t realise they weren’t priced same as the QM1!…….I will have a gander. 😎

TF_spotter1707I tried the new Guru pellet waggler hooks yesterday for up in the water on the pole. I fished Gold Valley peg114 on Syndicate Lake. i fished banded pellet at 13m. I caught 22 fish, 14 doubles, biggest 18lb+. This was after having a PR36 straighten! I am converted!!!
Incidentally i got the hooks from Matchman Supplies, post free & great service cheers.
Regards Peter.
