The final in my opinion was the best competition I have ever fished in. It was how a final should be and certainly put match fishing on the map. Well done to Phil Briscoe and all at Maver. Plenty of people came and watched and I am sure future years there will be more spectators and interest from the media – TV in particular, there is no doubt in my mind this should have been televised. I have no connections with Maver but as there slogan goes ‘Match This’ because the bar has just been raised. There are now three individual majors or grand slams in match fishing (Maver, Parkdean and Fisho) With this kind of money involved it is life changing for most anglers, Maver really want to make it 100k next year and I am sure they will. That kind of money in match fishing is brilliant, I personally would love to see the top five or six in the final paid, the winner could still get a huge payday of £50k and the next 5 also rewarded for their skill. In other major individual sports there is money in the prize fund for not just the winner.

I agree with you Stewart, it was a awesome competition, i might have had a terrible draw but i still loved evey minute of the day and night before, phill did a awesome job, and we all came away with a medal something to show for our place in the final. BRILLIANT, i will allways remember the 23 finalist.

I sat behind Mark Griffiths for the five hours and whilst match lake didnt fish to its potential i felt it actually made a better final as with 90 minutes to go i dont think anyone could really say there were out of it.
As for the actual event Phil certainly pulled out all the stops and made a big effort. I would expect he feels let down by the lack of people who turned up on the day though, the crowd to watch was extremely poor. I dont know what you can do to get more people to come and watch though.

Some times these things take time, there was uncertainty about his event , more due to other failed events rather than anything else. As it seems to have been a success word of mouth etc should see it bigger and better if its run next year.
Its good to see some positive comments about a fishing match, makes a nice change.
