TF_steve rThames Match – Windsor Wednesday 21st September
After running this match at Runnymede for years we are going to be trying a different venue for 2011 and will be using the Old Windsor stretch at Home Park in Windsor. As always this match is not confined to one forum and is open to members of MFS, TF, the customers of Davies Angling and anyone else that wants to fish it. It will be run by Big Steve (Rowland), Clive (Slut) and I’ll also be giving a hand.
The match will be on Wednesday 21st September – draw and fishing time to be announced. After the match Steve will open the clubhouse in Home Park for an after match drink – unfortunately there will be no food available.
If you are going to fish this then please let us know by adding your name here. Davies Angling will also be collecting names and I’ll update those nearer the time. Cheers – Ricky Baxter.

About 35 but we won’t fill it midweek !
-
31/08/2011 at 6:11 pm #147874
TF_mickydSteve you wont get 35 on homepark, are you going to use the island as well then?
-
01/09/2011 at 10:13 am #147903
TF_steve rMick you’d easily get 35 on Home Park with at least 15 yards each. We’ve already pegged 29 and that’s without the space currently being used by the EA for their equipment compound whilst they’re working on the weir !
If we needed 35 though I would include the meadow pegs just the other side of the railway bridge.
Ideally we’ll end up with 20/22 which would be just about perect for the Home Park leaving out a few that have narrow platforms or trees in the way.
Definitely won’t be on the island though as it’s been stolen from under our noses by this Eton Fisheries bloke who wants people to pay £100 a year to fish the Thames !

TF_Katarinoah now you know I wouldn’t miss it even although I’ve run short of leave this year but I do want to see jwb to find the dates of the Oxford WL matches this year.
I’ve not fished Home Park in years but I think we ought to dare Steve to put the ‘The Stakes’ (Bream) and ‘The Beach'(Chub and Barbel) pegs above the railway bridge in……… 😉
Now the questions/answers:
Steve: I’ll contact Stu (Angel) a bit nearer but I think at the very least you can guarantee John T. will be on for it. I’ll mention it to the Twyford (midweek) crew but they already have one arranged the same day so not sure there.
Mark: What date is the Mole Champs this year?
Mickyd: Are we having a Medley bash this year?

I think you’d call me a few names if you blanked there Roy, unfortunately they’re not the pegs they used to be [been hammered by the night-fishing, fish-eating types] whereas the Park is very even fair fishing at the moment.

I’m still in action Rick but it’s been pretty poor so far this season, the Roach don’t really seem to have had a go anywhere yet.

TF_steve rSunday’s result:
13.6, 11.4, 9.2, 8.15, 8.4 [X 2], 6.12, 5.11, 4.2, 4.1, 3.15 [X 2] then 2’s and 1’s.
24 fished and all weights were silvers, mostly Dace at one end and mostly Roach the other end. River was almost still apart from lock movements so let’s hope for a bit of rain before the 21st. One angler lost 2 big fish in the weeds [Bream he reckons] on the pole at 11 metres.

TF_steve rMick, if you put Romney Lock Road, Windsor into a map search engine it will show you the stretch in question in the Home Park from the railway bridge to the road bridge downstream [King Edward Avenue, I think, which goes directly to Old Windsor/Runneymeade].
With regards to times we need to think of people like Herbie and Ken travelling up from the West and how traffic effects their journey. I personally don’t mind whether it’s 5 or 6 hours fishing.
Maybe I should set up a poll to see what everyone thinks?
-
06/09/2011 at 10:13 pm #148185
TF_MARKHLDASTBH Steve most of us including the boys from the west will need to leave early to avoid the traffic, I expect I will leave Croydon at 6:15 and expect to get in the area at the latest 7:45. Breakfast done by 8:15. So an 8:30 draw and fish 10-4 (6 hours as I’m taking a day off work)
would suit me fine, happy to help out any way I can. -

Steve…..Have googled Romney L/R…..Where are we meeting exactly mate?…the lads dont know the area,Is the club house the Cricket or Rugby club?…..Sorry i am clueless….never fished it.   -
07/09/2011 at 3:41 pm #148206
TF_steve rMick, follow Romney Lock Road and you will pass the rugby and cricket clubhouses on your right and then tennis courts [with the angling clubhouse opposite] but we won’t do the draw there just the after-match bit. Keep going past the tennis courts as far as you can go before the car park ends. If the man at the council is nice I will have a key to let us through to the riverside, if not then we’ll use that car park which is only 100 yds from the river anyway and costs £2.80 for the whole day. We’ll do the draw at the riverside itself right behind peg 1 which will be by the railway bridge. It’s a nice flat walk for trollies from the car park to the river and the same for walking to all the pegs.
Please make sure your mates bring waders or at least wellies as some pegs will be in the water [not deep though].

TF_steve rHow about 8.30 [ish] am draw, fish 10.30 – 4.30. Gives people time to set up without rushing. By the time we do the weigh in and back to the clubhouse for the payout and a drink the rush hour will be over so people will have an easier journey home.
What does everyone think ?
-
13/09/2011 at 12:12 pm #148530
TF_steve rJust got back from walking the stretch and I’m going to put a limit of 33 on it.
Even though it’s blowing a ‘hooly’ it wasn’t too bad there as the wind was from the South and therefore off your back and a lot of the strength was dissipated by the fact that the bank behind you is very bushy and there’s a line of trees further back.
I reckon at least half the pegs will require wellies and some will need waders if you wish to go further out as the shallows are quite extensive in places.

TF_steve rCouple of things:-
1] Are there any objections to a 9am draw as they’ve just changed my other-halfs’ shifts and I have to pick her up at 8am so I would be at the venue around 8.45 ?
2] Has anyone got some decent scales they can bring along, the more we have the quicker we weigh-in ?
3] We won’t be allowed to drive right down to the river so it’s a pay & display job about 100 yds from the draw. The cost for all day is £2.80 [Runneymeade is £6 a day now apparently !] and the machines do not give change so make sure you have the right money with you.
-
15/09/2011 at 6:22 pm #148647
TF_jwbI can bring a set of scales.
Not too worried about the draw time, I’m going to be there early anyway cause of the traffic.

TF_Happy DanglerStuart at Davies Angling has said that if anyone wants to order bait for collection on the day then please call the shop on 01784 461831. He will open earlier next Wednesday for us and all bait orders will be ready on the counter for collection and payment.
He can’t fish now as has to cover for someone else in the shop but is also lending us a extra set of Match Scales.
Updated list is now at 32 names so anyone else will have to go on the reserve list for now as we are capping it at 32. So far I have not been notified of any other cancellations so hoping for a full turn-out we’ll see.
Please be at the fishery by 8.45am at the latest and as Steve says you will need £2.80 for parking in the correct money – this is for all day. The match will be fished from 10.30-4.30pm

It sounds like most people are getting there well before the draw to miss any potential traffic problems so if you want to get on with the draw and pull one out for me in my absence then I’m easy with that as long as we stick to 10.30 – 16.30 fishing times – we need everyone to know one way or the other what we’re doing though so a decision by Sunday night everyone please !
Rick [HD], I think we’ll close it there at 32.
POOLS – I suggest the following but it’s open to negotiation.
£15 all-in. Pays top five – £130, £100, £70, £50, £30 plus 4 section winners of 8 per section @ £25 each [NO DEFAULT SECTIONS THOUGH]. I BELIEVE IF YOU PAY SECTION MONEY YOU SHOULD BE ENTITLED TO WIN IT !
All of the above figures will change if anyone drops out on the day of course !

TF_Happy DanglerHi Steve – agree with all that and will edit the post ref numbers now. Hathers and I will get the draw organised for an 8.45-9am draw with fishing times as specified. I have told everyone to be there by 8.45 anyway.
Suggested payout is fine with me – is there a day ticket fee for Old Windsor on top of that?

TF_mickydSteve no worries about the match times I just thought it might help with you dropping off your other half, what about defaulting the section money to spread it out abit.

If that’s the general consensus then we’ll go with it, 9 out of 32 will then have recovered their pools and some bait I suppose – has always struck me as strange though paying into a pool you’re not allowed to win if you’ve had a good day and framed !
Rick [HD], if you and Hathers want to start the draw in case I’m late that’s one less hassle for me. I’ll ring you on the morning once I’ve pegged it to let you know how I’ve done it.
Herbie, I think the Top 20 will be the best bet for breakfast as they’re open from 6.30am. I’ll get some directions or a postcode over the weekend.

TF_steve rStill loads of Dace, Roach and Perch showing. The bigger fish ie Chub, Bream and Barbel have been coming out to night fisherman so we know they’re there – maybe the 4.30 finish might see a few lumps make an appearance.
The river itself is running clear with a slight flow and that’s not likely to change unless it rains non-stop from now until the match.

TF_KatarinoIt’s my sad duty to report than John Taylor has not entered into the spirit of the occassion and has been down there practicing 😉 …. 20lb+ I hear, although I suspect with 32 on the bank it might push them out a bit.

TF_Happy DanglerRoy – I have paid for a pint of casters at Davies today but they weren’t ready to collect when I was there. Phil/Stuart are going to give them to you tomorrow to bring for me.
I heard that someone else has had a few practices there too….
I just got back from fishing my local bit at Walton for 3 hours and had a great session.
