        Has anyone seen a weight sheet app for iPhone / iPad? If not, are there any techy types who fancy building one (I have no concept of how complicated this would be)?

        I think it would be extremely useful, especially if it had a built in calculator for when there are several weighs. Any other features you would want to incorporate?

          metric or imperial or both?

          I know that these Ipads and and phones are popular but on the bank for fishing weigh in’s?? Iphone you would be squinting and the IPad is not waterproof.

          I blame Clive Sinclair for the demise of mental arithmetic in anything but base10.

          I have an excel spreadsheet for match results and overall section positions and league tables which was produced to make sense of the winter league I run, but I doubt it would transfer to an IPhone.

            Paper isn’t noted for being particularly waterproof either!

            Nothing to do with mental arithmetic; just progress. If binmen can use iPads for collecting rubbish (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-14718065), why not match organisers for co-ordinating weigh-ins?

              Giving Binmen Ipads to improve their efficiency at collecting refuse… classic over engineering the solution..thanks Gary you brought a little ray of sunshine in on an otherwise dark wet evening 🙂

              The americans invented a ballpoint that could operate in space and spent a small fortune doing so. The Russians just picked up a pencil 😉

                you can use Excel worksheets on smartphones so I don’t really see an issue using it on an iPhone or iTouch – should work….

                  It does work on my smartphone, but, and this to my mind is why it isn’t practical, you can hardly see whats on the screen and if your fingers are wet the touch pad becomes unresponsive and the individual cost compared to a few sheets of paper and a couple of pencils far out weighs the WoW factor.

                  After the match such an app might be useful to work out league placings etc, but on the bank I remain unconvinced.

                  What would be the way to present the user with an input panel, would be a set of touch buttons, that are:

                  [Peg] [0] [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]
                  [lb] [Oz] [Enter] [Results Table]

                  So a typical key sequence might be
                  [Peg] [1] [2] [Enter]
                  [lb] [8] [0] [Oz] [1] [4] [Enter]

                  If you needed to add multiple weighs together for one peg simply repeat the weight key sequence. It ends and adds up when you start the next Peg Sequence. Seemples

                  anyone conversant in Android, Symbian, or Macinese might give it a go.

                  I do have a dedicated handheld logger that I designed years ago for the RAF that would do the job, using fully weatherproof casing and keys with a two line LCD and the facility to printout to a pc or printer. Might drag it out of the cupboard and consider if I could update it…. 😉

                      Just use ‘NOTES’ to type in weights and then use ‘CALCULATOR’ to tally up 😉

                      It would need to be a very user friendly and well layed out App to be quicker than typing it into ‘Notes’ and adding it up in your head. I can’t see anyone writing code or releasing an App like this anytime soon!
