06/09/2011 at 1:02 pm #148150
TF_mauler7£20 a ticket an £15 optional pools , i`m led to believe that they have only sold 38 tickets , a pretty poor show when its on such a good venue

TF_Tim_DWhy did they change the Individual national from the old format, at least before you felt like you’d earnt your place.

TF_caudal finParticipantA few of the lads I know who fished it last year are refusing to go as they believe nationals should be fished on natural venues and not on commercials. Although you could argue a canal is man made and not natural.

TF_lloydy1970Bob dyer is a disgrace trying to blame the canal last year for this years poor attendance. Paul turner and Tony keeling are 2 of the best match organisers around, if I was bob I’d look at how much admin money they have for the poor attendance

TF_toronationals team wise or individuals should always be run on a canal or river never on a CARP PUDDLE the canals around the midlands are always pegged and run very fairly and the fishing is very good

TF_mauler7Carp puddle , looking at a few of the lakes at woodlands i would imagine they are natural lakes, as for a canal , gone are the days when for me , and many others when you fighting against boats , bank walkers ,cyclists and dog poo, and more importantly scratching for a few pounds of fish and hoping to draw one of a very few good pegs. I had a good day but i think your intimating fishing commercials is less skillful than fishing a canal. I would beg to differ, you want to sit behind Jamie Hughes , Nei lMachin , Jon Arthur …………..the list is endless.100lb on a commercial , 2lb on a canal , no contest.

TF_toro£8 – £10 peg fee got to use the fishery pelets many diffrent rules for every diffrent puddle no thanks fished a river last sunday 120 pegger on the thames everyone enjoyed it most was able to park behind there pegs.
as to boats cyclists etc the canals and rivers are there for us all to enjoy
as to commercials i walked around one on bankholiday monday there was more rubbish on there pegs than a rubbish tip empty corn cans very thick line everywhere etc so think i will stick to natural venues.
all i stated was if the division 1 and 2 team nationals are on natural venues so should the individual nat.
by the way how many fish woodlands -

TF_mauler744 fished it , as for rubbish at commercials, i fish heronbrook, cudmore, hampton springs, blundells, partridge, and afew others , all very picturique surroundingsand well kept , park behind pegs ???? you obviously dont fish many canals or rivers, cost?????? bag of pellets and some corn against maggots, casters and other stuff , you ought to start fishing commercials , you will save some money……………and catch some fish.

Went last year, finished nowhere & thoroughly enjoyed it. The event brought even more respect to Tony Keeling, despite the ridiculous antics of the usual minority on the bank which should’ve resulted in charges being brought.
Was never going to this year’s event – the deciding factor being that it was on a commercial. I got the distinct impression from those I know who went last year & didn’t bother this year, that they thought the same as me. That’s half a dozen from just our small circle, so I can only assume the same chat went around many, many more up & down the country.
What can’t speak, can’t lie. We had more anglers on a local canal flyer yesterday (with a lot of notables missing, too) than were at Woodlands for a supposedly ‘prestige’ event. ‘Joe Public’ definitely voted with his feet this year. The numbers say that commercials aren’t the answer – despite one of the England team joint-managers stating in the Angling Times (possibly 18 months or more ago) that “events on canals are finished”. If that was the case, why was the WDAA Winter League on the Leeds-Liverpool canal the biggest under the AT umbrella last year with 14 teams? Imagine that lot all being interested in an individual national? Angling Trust would’ve been beating them off with sticks rather than stood there, hands in pockets – rolling their chuckies & wondering where everyone was…

TF_fadd1stWherever it was held a bit more publicity might have swelled the entry and gained the AT a few more members.
