Specimens turn up on Temple Silvers Open match
The first ever Silvers match on Specimen Carp Lake Temple was held midweek at Bury Hill Fishery where 14 anglers took part in this match to try and determine the small fish stocking levels on the lake which is more known for its large stocking of 20lbs and 30lbs plus carp.
With the weather incredibly hot and sunny for the time of year it needed a stiff breeze on the water to tempt the silver fish shoals to feed with confidence.
Despite plenty of small roach, rudd and perch being caught on this maggot and float only match there were also some bigger specimens landed which included a cracking 1lbs 14oz roach by winner Terry Harrison (Daiwa Dorking) who put together a nice bag of roach and skimmers for 31lbs 7oz mainly on the pole.
However it was fishery tackle shop manager Russ Evans (Sticky/NDP10) who had the biggest specimen of the day with a cracking 3lbs 1oz perch which took a single red maggot on a size 16’s hook presented in 7ft of water 5 rod lengths out on a drake waggler float.
“I am pretty sure I lost an even bigger perch earlier in the match on the pole,” said Russ “as some of the perch go over 4lbs. It felt a very big fish which took out plenty of my blue hydro before parting with the hook.”
With a level 31lbs Russ came second ahead of Brian Spiking (Surrey) 25lbs 5oz and Bruce Scott (Anglers Base) 23lbs 12oz. In total 225lbs of silvers were caught.
