I used the 2500 size for close range work, but I say it can handle most things. Cracking reel.

I bought a 4000 DL for feeder fishing in Ireland, i’d ordered it online and when it arrived it looked very basic for a Shimano, alot of plastic parts and flimsy bail arm. Nothing like the build quality on my 6000 & 8000 XTE-A’s that I had for Pike fishing. I sold it before I used it and went for a couple of Daiwa 3012D TDR’s.

If you were looking a Baby Baitrunner make sure and go for the XT version, they look to be a better build quality but they’re £100+

It’s the baby version 2500, think it’s a DA model.Smoother than the DL model

I would try on Ebay as there some Shimano baby baitrunners on there at the monent for less than £90 and also free post

I use a FA 4000DL for my stalking/surface fishing work and I cannot see the “plastic” nature of the reel as it has the same build quality as my Power Aero XT’s & BTR GTE-C’s that I use also. In fact I am going to buy another couple as soon as I get round to it to stick on the zander/barbel/tench rods. It has handled stopping & cranking 20lb+ carp away from getting into heavy weed and has performed higher than I expected it to.

AdzT – dont know if these interest you, but there is a tackle shop in Halesowen doing the special edition (were released for a short re-run last year) Shimanno 5000 at £55 each, or 2 for £100.

Ha ha – yes, think you might be right there! I was trawling through posts and did not read your thread starter to be honest and saw replies about diffo bait runners.
I had just come out of the shop and seen them, hence the post.
