TF_mickydMany thanks for running it Rick, another good day on the river. Well done Andy on your win.
Considering the clarity of the water it fished very well, i have to say that Steve and his club have got a great bit of the Thames. It couldnt be more convienient and the parking considering were it is £2.80 for the day thats a bargain. I cant wait to see what it will fish like with some colour in it. -

LesBalled it with 13 big ones at the start, Gros Gardons, Lake and soil, and then loose fed maggot over the top with maggot on the hook. This was in 12 foot of water and I fished 2.5 grm float at 11m. caught dace and perch over initial feed until a very large pike moved in. Caught a few fish on the waggler and maggot. Then reballed it and this time caught roach on maggot until mr Pike moved in again (Pike won 13 to nil and deffo cost me 2nd at least)

HAPPY DANGLER,

They have to consider their members as priority and I think they would like to discuss it before opening up the venue for further open matches.
I have spoken to a few people who have fished the two matches we’ve had so far and all have said they would be prepared to pay for a pegging fee if it means we can use the venue again.
Big Steve (Rowland) is a member of the club and I am sure he will keep us informed about whether or not we can use the stretch again. I am happy to help run any future matches but think we can only realistically aim for mid-week matches so as not to inconvenience the membership. Just keep an eye on here or MFS for any update.

LesLes I think it is fair to say that the peg defines the best method. The pegs with shallow beaches and little depth are best fished with the waggler or pole IF you can get well out into the water on a platform. On the deeper pegs, then the pole is probably the best form of attack.
In the first of our two matches there were 11 double figure weights and I know that an angler fishing the topper, someone else fishing the waggler and another on the pole all came in the top 4 so really the choice comes down to you. The only thing we have seen is that the feeder is not really playing a part in current conditions.
Like JWB, I also balled the pole line and have fished maggot or caster on the hook on both pole and waggler.

AnonymousThanks Rick and JWB for the info we will probably have a walk-off so I will probably head for the deeper pegs or the end peg by Vicky bridge.
Are there deeper pegs all the way along?

AnonymousHi again
How fine did you guys need to fish are we talking .06 or .10 hooklinks. and will a 20 B520 be ok.

TF_orexinaI fished the waggler all day as it wasn’t easy to ship the pole back. I fished a 2.5 swan drennen waggler and a 0.08 bottom to a 22 preston hook.
I don’t think you need to be too fine, its the feeding that’s important. The bleak got in the way of the maggots so I changed to casters which was better.
I didn’t ball it in like some people did. Whether this made a difference I don’t know.

TF_steve rDing Dong and all,
the club has now put together a booking procedure/form which I need to read in detail before making any further bookings. Once I’ve been through it and sorted out any queries with the club I’ll put something else up on the forum.

TF_steve rThey have a club match every Sunday during the season but the next one at Home Park is Dec 11th. There are a few more river ones coming up soon on the Civil Service stretch at Datchet which can also throw up some silvers weights on the right day. Have a look at matches on the website and they’re all listed.

Bit of a drive but Rushey is bookable and still pretty good as long as you watch your bankside discipline.
I’m fairly sure Jolly Anglers Wallingford still issue day tickets for their waters and I love the sections around the town, it’s Float Heaven.
Child Beale is bookable on a DT basis but it’s a bit hit and miss. You can do 150lb there in what you think are bad conditions and then blank when it looks good.
Datchet below the Albert Bridge? Used to be Old Windsor but I believe it is now free and used to be pretty good although how much it gets fished now is anyones guess.
I also think that if you are a member of Oxford and District or the Oxford and Abingdon Alliance you can book their waters and I doubt there would be a problem midweek. JWB or Mickyd would probably be the men to ask. Iffley hardly gets used at all now and may even be free and that can be fantastic Roach fishing when it’s right.
In fact, on a lot of the Middle Thames these days your chances of being pulled for tickets midweek in autumn/winter is virtually nil. I know people who have fished Eynsham for years and never seen a bailiff. You can read into that comment what you will. 😉
