Thinking of changing over to dacron connectors, how reliable is the joint from elastic to dacron and how often do you need to trim back the elastoc and re-make the connection, any info would be appreciated.

the joint will only be as good as you make it.
i tie a loop in the elastic and then loop2loop the dacron to it, then i pull the loop tight and cover it with a peice of red hydro makes it neat and wont go inside the bush.
ive never had to trim off elastic and re do it, if the elastic starts to fray ill replace the whole elastic.

once you switch youll never go back! they are that good!

I changed over to Dacrons from crowsfoot at the start of the year, initially on my lighter carp elastics, but like them so much I use them on all my tops now.

The joint lasts as long as it would on any other connection, but it’s so easy to re-do on hollow elastics as you don’t tie the two together, you can just tie a small single knot in the end of the lakky a lasso the dacron loop round the lakky and butt it up against the knot. Nice and simple! The Preston dacrons are good, plus they have a good diagram in the packet to show you how to attach them.

I do exactly the same as you Gavin – with all my elastics including hydro – but after sliding the loop of dacron tight up to the knot, I fold the end of the elastic back over the knot and looped dacron and then tidy it all up with some sleeving/silicon tubing or even a large tail rubber over the knot.

As stated mate, the knot is the important bit. I’ve been using these for 15 years and still use em. The only difference is I also use middy “rubber cones” to cover the knot. Depending on use and lube you only need re make once a season

Thanks for the advice, changed half of the tops over and cant understand why I didnt do it ages ago. Changed over to pull bungs on my hollow elastics as well and cant believe how much of an improvement it is.
