Is it possible to remove the excess lubricants from the top kits with ordinary washing up liquid?

I don’t want to harm the carbon and/or the resin, and have a gut feeling that washing up liquid would be ok. Anybody have a view on this?

I have not been satisfied with the combination of Slippery Eel and Milo Jumpy elastics, so want to switch to a different brand of elastics and just use water as lubricant.

take laccy and bungs out – soak in bath with a bit of washing up liquid.

Run some wool through your kits with elastic threader and pull from each end against the inner walls of your kits – rinse well

          Job done

You can use a smidgin of washing up liquid, diluted against alot of water as a lubricant anyway – its as good as anything off the shelf and you do not have the washing out problem you refer to. A freind of mine uses hair conditioner diluted lots and lots and thats fine as well.
Chuck them in the bath as Craigo says, the will be fine.

Sounds like it’s quite easy to clean the old lubricant off.

I used to use just water to lubricate my elastics, but after I bought a new pole I felt the need for some kind of lubricant, but it has gone from bad to worse. I will now try and switch the brand of elastics, to see if it helps. Thanks a lot 🙂

it’s more likely to be scum, pollen, seeds and dust from the water than lube.

Lump: I had problems from day 1, when the top kit’s had not seen any water at all, so I suppose the brand of elastic does make a difference. However, it’s true that the lubricant also binds dirt from the surroundings.

Billy the squid> In my experience there is a lot of difference between the brands of elastics, whether they need lubricant or not. I’ve used Milo Jumpy + water as lubricant in the past, with good results, but with the new pole it didn’t work out. I then tried the same elastic with Slippery Eel, but didn’t succeed. I’m switching to Sensas Latex, as a few of my buddies have good results with these, just using water as lubricant.

In general I prefer to just use water as lubricant, as it’s the cheapest, least messy option.

quite a few off the shelve lubricants clog up your pole over time in my experience. The oil based lubricants such as preston slip are a bit expensive and dont last that long but seem to be better, the bigger bottles of a white coloured liquid such as drennan or maver etc are better when well diluted as they go tacky when a build occurs inside the pole.

I’ve been using the maver lube watered down 3 parts water, 1 part lube
