      TF_MICK THE BOOKIE

    Fished a match at Willinghurst on Sunday(13th Nov.),and it appears i was fishing against other anglers on another lake.
Now……Dont think i am getting a Grumpy old man,but i just cant believe that is anywhere near fair. What kind of orgainiser of a “prestige match” could do such a stupid thing?…….I tell you who…..John bloody Radford.
Now…..Dont get me wrong here…..I love the Northern git to bits…..but this cant be right..24 fished Top lake and Old Lake. There were(i think)14 on Top Lake and 10 of us on Old Lake…..John in his infinite wisdom made up 3 SECTIONS of 8…….which meant that some of us on Old Lake ended up fishing against anglers on Top Lake…Call me old fashioned, but that aint on…Is it?
There is no way that on the day OLD LAKE COULD COMPETE WITH ANY PEGS ON TOP LAKE……IMO.
As i stated at the time…..”YOU MIGHT JUST HAVE WELL FISHED AGAINST A LAKE AT WHITE ACRES OR THE GLEBE”…..If you get my drift.
As it happens i guess i am talking through my pocket, because i felt i had won my Section.I fished like a star to eak out 26lb off a right shite peg to come second(30 lb won it) on a Lake that fished extremely hard on the day.
AS I TOLD ALL CONCERNED AT THE PAY-OUT IN MY USUAL CALM WAY………IT AINT THE F****** PRINCIPAL…..ITS THE MONEY. 😡 😡 😡 😡

        HAVE A NICE DAY NOW. :p :p :p :p :p :p

colin the mans a gentle giant , and if he,s upset it must be serious mate. to get back to the hut on his fans shoulders only to be cheated out of his rightful well earned section money by an ex gooner must ave been gut wrenching. he wont want to speak to the angling press cos he wont want the tax man to know how much coin he gets from willinghurst. 😎 😎

On a serious note Brian the pools when using two lakes should allways be Continental, thats the real fair way of paying pools.ie instead of 1/2/3 on two lakes it should be top weight lake 1 second weight lake two, then two sections, one on each lake.

I tend to disagree. It is all about the draw. Surely match fishing for the average angler is 80% all about drawing a possible framing peg and doing the best you can from it. On lakes all over the country sections are becoming almost fish-less as the water cools down. Vast areas have no chance of framing at all. Would you rather be on a seperate lake with fish in the peg or on one of the fish-less sections but on the same lake as some rubbish angler was bagging on? I know where I would rather be.

I would much rather the organiser chose to split the match over different lakes pegging the sections with fish in. Even if one lake hasn’t the potential of the other(s) I’d rather have pulled one of those pegs than one in a barren part of the prolific lake. One section on a river can rubbish compared to the others. If you draw there it is tough luck.

So as I said, it is all about the draw but I would rather be catching than watching and it doesn’t worry me about the pools too much. Let those who have drawn well and done the business get the spoils whatever lake or section of the river they are on.

So a hypothetical question Waveny one.If you where fishing a two lake match and the top framing weights all came off lake one,you would not be miffed if you where fishing lake two and won the lake but gaind nothing for your efforts?.I would have to ask, why do you go match fishing, if not to compeat and win coin or prizes?.

individual payouts i can understand luck of the draw 😀 but not sections that’s stupid 😡 i would never expect to fish against another lake for my section. cant think of one example in 50 years of fishing  must be a cockerney thing :p

Totally agree with toplights, basically your fishing a separate match being on a different lake. Their should have at least had separate sections on old lake. Shoot the organiser. 🙂 🙂 🙂

I cant accept herbies pointt of view about an area of organising said matches as surely living in the capital every body else should follow our match rules :p 😀
No seroiulsy now john made a small mistake regards sections and has changed his method statemen<t being that ive fished a few matches run by john and the bookie theres only one winner john by a cockney mile 🙂 🙂 🙂 g hows the birds 😉 😉 😉

I would be miffed of course, but at myself for drawing the wrong peg!

I go match fishing as it provides the competition that I enjoy with my fishing. I just love fishing not winning the money although that helps with the cost of my hobby occasionally.

If I draw a duff peg I sit out out and enjoy the banter with those around me who are in a similar boat. Occasionally those duff pegs come good. I remember the first river match of this season on June 16th and as usual I drew a duff section. A guy 2 pegs up from me moaned all the way to his peg and packed up after a couple of hours throwing back 4lb of fish. This is after having to wait from 1st week in October to mid June to get back onto that stretch of river! I just enjoyed the day out on the river and the banter on the bank and at the draw and results.

If there are 20 pegs where you could win and 70 anglers fishing some are going to classed rubbish.

I also recall in the early days of the Kamasan points, where guys chasing the points would book into 2 or even 3 matches and turn up for the draw then if they didn’t draw well ring their mate(s) and get them to draw for them on another match down the road in the hope that would be better. Maybe that is how to succeed but it doesn’t float my boat.

What I will concede is that splitting a section over 2 lakes isn’t ideal but if the match organiser puts ‘equal’ pegs into the section, crap on the good lake and good on the crap lake then even it could work. I see absolutely no difference between drawing a duff lake or a duff section on a good lake. It is all down to the draw in either case.

I obviously think that a Continental payout would have been the best solution for this type of match.
