Where are these pellets from, who makes them ?

  I like Dynamite pellets cornish bagging pellet there spot on there rock hard and have like a nice chiseled appearance they stay in a band well and break down slowly. This year Ive had on several occasions from shops and fisheries some pellets that breakdown as soon as you wet em and slip out of the band you cant catapult them straight there crap, when you look at these pellets the composition is totally different, they appear to have load of air in the mixture,anyone else have the same problem ? who makes these, are they from China ? 😮

  A few years ago I was looking into cost of pellets and am pretty sure the skrettings were cheaper, but dont quote me on it.

  reckon everybody has had the same problem ive heard that the reason why they r like they r is cos fishmeal stocks r down so putting less fishmeal in these days

  Dynamite pellets seem to be ok, to me it just seems like all the shop and fishery bagged own pellets that are rubbish. Carmagic should be able to put us right ?

  I dont know which pellets you have which are breaking down but i would doubt they are coppens. Not many companies use coppens for hard pellets that i know of. Most fisheries for instance use skrettings. I have noticed this year a massive variation in fishery pellets even though they are from one main source.

  Gold valley ? Their pellets seem to do the same… Even when they are wetted 8mil for example ! my gran could throw further… Might be just a bad batch.. I get mine from carpfishingpellets.co.uk. Never had a problem ! touch wood…

  sounds like the generic ones we get round here (sheffield area) best pellets i’ve ever used were the old Hallcroft ones (Dina? foreign company, nothing like anything else) some good ones i’ve found are Bait Tech, Merlin if you can find any, i want some 3 and 4mms that swell up rather than break down in water.

  Lump, try the company I use.. I think you can only get micro and 4mil ! i’ve never asked for 3mil but you can ask.. A few people I know use them.. Never had a problem… You never know till you try.. Other than that you wont go wrong with the Yorkshire Baits pellets.. p.s not sponsored lol…

  Ive said this many times on here but the reason pellets from the same company are different from batch to batch is due to costs of ingredients at the time of manufacture.
  
  Pellets from skrettings and other big feed manufacturers are not made for fishermen, they are made for feeding trout and salmon. The only difference between low oil and high oil pellets are the low oils are not vacuum infused with fish oil after formation. The pellets are made in exactly the same way.
  
  Anyway fish have NO requirement for any particular ingredient ONLY the nutrients those ingredients provide. This basically means that the fish feed companies can make pellets out of several different ingredients depending on the price of those ingredients at the time. With grain prices being very volatile this year i hope this explains why pellets have been of variable durability this year. Its simply because they are made of different ingredient.

  The pellets we use are not made for feeding trout and salmon !
  
  Trout pellets feed trout, We use Coarse pellets for feeding coarse fish (usually carp )
  
  Fishmeal varies in quality and quantity but TBH I have not seen a bad Skretting.
  
  The worse pellet I have come across for breaking down too quick are the Green Swim Stims, when you had to use them at the Glebe they were terrible, simply normal pellet dyed green !

  Thanks for replies, Gnome I dont understand why grain or cereal prices should drive the quality of a pellet ? Ive always worked within the food indsutry or around that field and Ive never known manufacturers to be inconsistent just because of prike hikes, companies generally set a benchmark for a product and stick to it regardless, they normally just pass the inflated costs on which the pellet producers readilly do !!!! I never open a packet of Weetabix on a morning to find they have bastardised the contents ?

  Pellets manufactured by skretting are not manufactured for coarse fish. They just aint! In fact a carp with just a diet of coarse pellets would eventually die….They are difficient in certain vitamins that trout do not require but carp do. A coarse fish pellet is just a trout pellet without vacuum infusion of fish oil.
  
  Fish feed can use different percentages of different grains provided the nutritional content of the finished pellet still has the same %’s of fat, carbs, proteins etc. Therefore a finished pellet will be different because they are made from different ingredients. They actually use a computer program to create the pellet using a ‘least cost formulation’ model. Skretting produse vast numbers of pellets to feed trout and salmon. Coarse fish pellets are a very very small sideline.

  Maybe next time carbon goes up pole manufacturers should omit some carbon and use some electricians tape instead, if anglers are willing to accept inconsistencies it wont matter :confused:
