TF_andy cranes mateParticipantHas anyone ever had problems getting these to sink? I purchased some from a local shop this week. Their wasn’t any on the shelf but some came from the back room. I’ve got the 4 and 6mm and basically they just will not sink. I’ve pumped them for an hour, soaked them for 48hrs and everyone’s still floating. I think I’ve been sold some very old pellets, what do you guys think?

TF_billy the squidParticipantI bought a fair few bags of the old cool water ringers around 5 yrs ago, the real pale ones, they lasted me up until early last year, but never had any problems!! maybe you got some dud ones??

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantI have this problem with most expanders so I only use them as hookers, I wet down normal pellets for feed.

TF_baitchefParticipantIf your still struggling later on, order yourself some Cornish bagging pellets from white acres, when soaked they go soft but they do not go mushy like normal hard pellets, and they all sink. Much better that expander’s, which are generally just floating pellets.

TF_Bear361ParticipantI`ve had my 4mm and 6mm for a couple of years now, used them a lot lately and pumped fine.

well you asked what we thought and thats what i think.
when you got home with these pellets and you poured the pellets out did they float up into the air as if entirely weightless or did they stay on the surface you put them on? i would guess the latter. when you pump all the air out with a decent pellet pump and replace it entirely with water then the weight of the water combined with the weight of the pellet will make it heavier than water and it will therefore sink.even if the pellets are 100 years old.so i think you need a decent pellet pump or if as you say there is nothing wrong with yours then you need to learn how to use it. have you tried putting water in it?

TF_andy cranes mateParticipantYour a very funny man. When I pump the pellets the sides of the pump get sucked in, hey, almost like theirs a vacuum in there. Maybe your right, it can’t be working right. See you on the open university, professor.

AnonymousSoak a few pellets until soft. Then, hold a pellet under the water and squeeze the pellet to push all the air out. If it still floats. Then, its the pellets that are wrong. Take them back to the shop and ask for your money back. If the pellet sinks. Then, get a new pump!

TF_orexinaNot quite. If the pellet is made of material less dense than the water then they will float.
As to the original question…try pumping them with as much water in your pump as possible. This will suck nearly all the air out at once. You should see them sink in the pump. Then transfer to a bait box with just a little water in it. If you leave them in too much water they will get very soft.
I use them all the time and never have a problem.

TF_andy cranes mateParticipantWell I’ve brought another bag today and they all sank when pumped. So like I said, nothing wrong with my pump. Get over it.
