Following a hard overnight frost the hardy few that turned up to fish found the lake almost completely frozen, but the match went ahead using pegs along the visitor centre bank of the lake only., and it was rarely used pegs underneath the centre balcony which gave the bulk of the action on this bitterly cold day.
Here Birmingham angler Terry Gilbert, fishing a match on the lake for the first time managed to winkle out twelve bream for an excellent catch on the day of 30lb.
Terry used the open ended feeder alternating between red maggot and bread on the hook.
Runner-up Dave Schofield (Redditch) was next door to the winner and fished in similar style but fell two fish short with another good score in the conditions of 24lb 5oz.
Third place was taken by Maurice Williams who was in the very hard section on the private bank, Maurice persevered well after a very slow start and eventually sorted out six bream on the method feeder for a 16lb 3oz total.
